Acting is really a lot more difficult than it looks, and porn actors are not chosen particularly for their acting skills. Still I guess you could also blame the director sometimes. Still there are some good performances that really make up for it. I think that there are some people who feel small, insignificant and powerless, and the only way they know to "big themselves up" is to make spiteful and hurtful comments about others. There is nothing else in their lives that gives them any sense of achievement.

I learned to drive with a manual, so I can still do it, but they are almost non-existent in normal cars in Australia now. Even sports cars have an automatic with paddle shifters. All the manuals I drove had synchromesh, so I never learned to use a crash gearbox and I don't know how to double de-clutch. For the last 20 years I have driven automatics, and I couldn't bear to live without cruise control now. A couple of features I miss: the manual lets you drive the car on the starter motor when the engine fails. Great for getting out of the traffic flow if it quits.

To enjoy the films I think it is necessary to accept them as a bit of entertaining nonsense. Viewed from that angle they can be a lot of fun, just like Chinese martial arts movies that can also be way over the top and impossible to believe. My favorite Bond was Roger Moore, because of the subtle way he played the role. A man who is truly competent and skilled has no need to act like a loud-mouthed braggart. I've just been watching this series "Wartime Farm" . It's about agriculture in Britain during world war 2. Before the war Britain was importing 60% of its food, and these supplies were almost completely cut off by the German naval blockade. I was fascinated to watch people trying to re-create some of the things they did.
