Peeing has never been a taboo topic in my family. I used to be a rather shameless kid during my early years. Whenever I was outside I just peed in front of parents, siblings, cousins or other relatives. They were my family members so I thought it was OK to do so ... This topic has a very fine line between what someone might find acceptable or not. Having a family that is open with each other and feel comfortable around each other is an incredible and rare thing.

As we grow up we become more aware of our bodies and as a result tend to shy away and hide, especially when we become sexually active, the whole idea of body confidence and comparing yourself with others. Hence why some believe the line is at family seeing their body.

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with it, peeing in the same spot or going at the same time on a trail etc.. we should be able to feel comfortable and not have to hide.

Also the topic is "peeing in front of family members" it doesn't mean they're stood 3 ft in front of you staring at you while you go, you could be facing away from them and then the most they would see is the stream.

Not sure this counts, but I tinkle infront of my family all the time. I'm inco, so I wear pampers, and they know. Not only Holidays but most every Sunday we get together at my Mom's. In addition to my purse I also bring a changing bag. .. I mean, obviously I cannot be there for 5 or 6 hours without changing. I actually change alot more often when I am at someone else's house. Be it my Mom's or a friend's because leaking a bit at home is one thing, but I do not want to leak sitting on someone else's furniture. 

Again, I'm not sure if this counts because I don't tell people "Guess what, I'm tinkling" ( I'm not even aware of it myself ) nor is my wetting something they can see or hear, but when people know you need pampers, and you show up with a changing bag, and you and your bag periodically go into the bathroom, I would say there is enough information that my family sees and thinks to themselves.. Our faces and even our fingerprints are quite unique and can be used as indisputable identification, but dicks are quite unexceptional especially among family members. I recall seeing a Japanese game show where a wife had to identify her husband from a group of similar guys solely by his dick. Really interesting points you make, and your situation is the same as mine. I haven't ever thought about my parents and pee, or whether our open door policy was unusual. I don't now keep the door open when I visit my Mum, and I expect the door to be closed when visitors come here. My children are now grown up (early 20s), but at least at the moment are spending quite a lot of time with us. The open door policy continues here in our house - we all use the bathroom simultaneously. I don't know when or whether that might change. Perhaps if they brought partners with them (both are single currently). When there are friends round, the open door policy is suspended.

I have in-front of my parents and sister when I was younger. Once I hit puberty I kinda wanted my privacy. When I was younger my dad used to share the toilet with me, we'd stand side by side and go together. This is also before I was made fun of at school for being circumcised.
