I would not be so sure, that they were honest. It could just be, that they felt the need to say something, so that silence could not be seen as passive aproval.  Given that they probably don't want to seen as disgusting by their friend, who did not tell them their opinion on peeing outside, being opposed to it would be the safer bet.
