I have never done this personally but a very good friend of mine did on the way back from a party in London last year. This happened some years ago now and somehow the details about everything else than the piss are very hazy.

It was summertime and I was in Central Europe. I had taken a regional train, so it was a simple one with soft seats but no carpet on the floor.

In the end, we were already quite close to my destination, when the tickets were finally checked. There was still no one else in the same carriage.

Maybe I could get off the train, but train station toilets can be quite dirty, so that didn't seem like an appealing option. Wherever I was going from the train station I knew I could not make it.

So I thought about the situation. I was alone in the carriage, the ticket had been checked and we were arriving at my destination in about 5 minutes.

I think part of this is definitely that some years ago this was easier to get away with. You might’ve bought your ticket in cash and never showed your ID. There were far fewer cameras and no digital recording or facial recognition
