It's very rare I post here, but thought I'd share today's urinal experiences...    By way of background, I'm currently at a European Formula 1 motor race - Spa in Belgium to be precise.  Today was the first day on the circuit and a chance to explore.

First amusing experience was walking past one of the toilet blocks with one of the ladies in our group.   Blocks which are essentially metal containers, with a row of doors on one side to sit down toilets.  On the opposite side is a full length trough urinal, completely open to view of anyone walking past.  And on the end, a handwash station.  The amusing thing was walking past with one of the ladies in our trip group who was a little shocked at glancing across at the wrong moment - to see a side view of a couple of guys casting impressive golden streams into the trough.

Later on, I had the opportunity for a nonchalant open air pee myself - just at the back of our grandstand a very narrow path led between the stand an a fence. Narrow enough to be a single file walk, but despite that the organisers had still put in an open air urinal.  The sort where three guys stand facing inwards, so I had a pee there enjoying the thought of how many people were walking past inches away.  When I'd finished, and maybe given a slightly over enthusiastic shake, I literally had to wait for a gap in the stream of passers-by to step down without landing on someone.

And all perfectly legal, not just nonchalant but actually organised to be that way.

That was Friday night...    On Saturday morning at the track I decided to go and enjoy the moment again, to dispose of my morning coffee - and the urinal was full to within half an inch of overflowing.  And since the three sides share one tank - which clearly hadn't been emptied - all three sides were out of action.  By Sunday it hadn't been emptied either, and by that point stank too.   Nothing like the pleasant aroma of fresh pee.

I thought I remember seeing some public urinals in a trip to London, but maybe it was in France somewhere.  Not sure if they are common in the UK. but they aren't common at all in the USA.  The ones I rremember were right on the street and had basically a metal wall to piss against with a drain at the bottom with metal privacy shielding around them. I'd be shocked if some women didn't use them too.  From the stains it looked like aiming was not most user's strong point.

There are some in London, especially ones which fold away or drop into the ground during the daytime, then open up at night time to be pissed in by pub-goers on their way home. They’re relatively recent (in the last 10, 20 years?) as a response to the amount of urine being sprayed around against walls at night time.

 France has quite a few more old-fashioned ones which are just, like, there, with some combination of privacy screen, drain, and actual urinal.
