This is a difficult one for me to answer, because it was totally location dependent. I think when I was very young I had no hesitation peeing in the yard (in the US) in front of my mom. In Europe everyone peed outside so it was also totally normal to do that at our summer house or one of the family estates. When this European outdoor peeing habit started to get me in trouble in school in the US, I think I was encouraged by my parents to be discrete and find a toilet in the US. @Sexismygod I totally get this. I think the first time I became aware off the difference between boys and girls peeing was when a female friend was put in a diaper instead of peeing outside. I went apple picking with my family, my friend and her mom. Before we left, I was taken to pee on a tree. As I was wetting the tree I saw that my friend was instead being changed into a diaper, instructed to pipi, checked that she had wet the diaper and then then changed out of it again before we left. Does anyone else here have a photographic memory and/or a very early visual memory? I have both and I wonder if it has contributed to my pee fetish. I have very vivid and visual memories of many things going back to what I believe is even 2 or 3 years old--surfaces, patterns, clothing, shoes, art, architecture, cars etc. As you can read from many of my recollections this includes images of pee streams, puddles and surfaces that I or others peed on from decades ago. Does anyone else have such strong visual memories?

Last week I was at an event where parents were talking about a popular Australian TV show called Bluey which is on Disney+ in the US. Apparently the characters are frequently peeing outside and its made their children want to have "tactical pees" and pee outside which they call "bush wees" or "taking a bluey." I had never heard of the show, but most of the parents were affirming that this was a trend. It will be interesting if this has any eventual impact on acceptance of peeing outside in the US. Has anyone else heard about this show in this way?

Nature or nurture is a really interesting question here. If Chinese culture made forward streams a positive attribute / sign of fertility, they were observable and this went back centuries, natural selection may have bread forward streams into the population. On the nurture side, the prevalence of squatting in China for reasons outside peeing, may be shaping bodies and anatomy. My wife often makes fun of me for squatting like a white person. The only culture I have heard that embraced peeing standing was 18th-19th century Europe where ladies would wear long puffy dresses and pee standing under them. I think this was driven by the complexity of the dresses. Unfortunately I think these customs are not very well documented and I have no idea how this intersected with Urethra angle. If anyone has better literature, please share or perhaps even start a new thread. Another year, my friends and I had be-friended a young gallerist who was quite stressed out by her first time working the fair. We invited her to join us for drinks. My wife has said that forward streams require a different squatting technique. Ideally your panties/pants are at your knees and you squat low, so that your stream exits below them and goes forward under them. This is frequently taught/learned in Asia but less so in the US because squatting and forward streams are less common here. Thus many parents in the west talk about the difficulty of girls peeing outside, which is not frequently discussed as an issue in Asia.

I'm straight and the only interest in a male peeing is the situation, location or puddle they are leaving. If I'm envious of the situation its interesting because I could imagine myself peeing where the man is peeing. If its a unique location or leaves a puddle that also makes it interesting. Men peeing in conventional locaitons has zero interest for me.

@kitty and mimi Thank you for this contribution. It is very interesting. I shared this with my wife and she had heard the idiom but was not very familiar with it. She asked her mom, who laughed and asked where she heard that. She said it was meant to apply to women before / after child birth. But there it is not universal, just like some women are able to restore their figures after childbirth. She also mentioned the Chinese tradition of binding the women to restore their figures after childbirth and eating a special diet of congee, bone broths, herbs etc.. My wife confirmed a few things.
