As I mentioned in the post many people (men and women) peed in corners of underground parking garage and on the street outside. Some also peed in the hotel’s courtyard/garden but even that got really packed eventually. I peed out a window so I assume some others probably did the same. The stairwell was the only place I saw people peeing on an indoor/carpeted area but who knows it could have happened in other rooms or hallways I did not see.

Sometimes I skip the bathroom at the airport and just pee in the parking lot. Why wait if you’re going to long term parking or rental car lot? I’ve observed some other airport peeing. I created a thread here

Yes, I think it has. I was constantly confused by being encouraged to pee all over outside in Europe and then being scolded or prevented from peeing outside in the US. You can read more about it in these threads among others.

I'm not exactly sure what a "piss mark" means but if you mean leaving a wet mark on some surface, it was probably being held by a nanny to pee on a wall or car tire in Spain. It happened quite frequently growing up.

@Sarah_Hiker31 how do you feel about peeing on hard surfaces outside (like parking lots, sidewalks etc.)? In more urban or suburban areas to you bother to find a bathroom or just squat in a convenient place? I read in your picnic post that you went with your sister. @Bertsmall I assume from your other posts this was in the UK? It seems like in the UK and US, locations where parents regularly allow peeing outdoors are often in green areas (bushes, trees, grass etc.) where it usually soaks in and does not leave a mess. However, this sounds like this was all hard surfaces where you would leave a puddle and possibly smell if they were used frequently. Were the stairs and patio enclosed or open to the elements so they would be cleaned by the rain? Did they start to smell like pee from regular use? Did parents care where you peed in there? I also love seeing where women choose to pee outside. I love it when they are careless or don't think through the whole implications of the puddle they are going to leave.

The wets spots, puddles, streams and markings left on dry surfaces. The ambiguity of where and in what context its ok to pee. I.e. peeing on the sidewalk is pretty taboo in many areas of the US during the day but could be acceptable in another place like Spain. Women selfishly putting their relief ahead of any concerns about leaving a mess. Thinking back to potty training age and being warmly guided to pee wherever I needed to even if that left a mess. Being guided to pee in these places where it might not have been considered ok in other countries or contexts.

Large trees are always funny because they are almost more a social signal that you are being sightly civilized by using the tree rather than the tree actually providing significant cover. Yeah, I always thought the pee spots and pee trees were interesting. They were not bathrooms or as you say particularly private and yet somehow they became communally agreed upon places for repeatedly peeing. How did that happen? I can remember a few spots. At one park there was a big tree that was not near anything and offered little privacy but it was considered the pee tree. Yes, I carry tissues in the car. If you need a wipe I an assist 🙂 I remember the nannies and my aunts in Spain and France always carried tissues in their purses for wiping. I've observed this to just be more common in Europe where people are used to peeing outside compared to the US where its the exception to the rule.

Have you explored where you can get away with peeing outside? I've seen sometimes moms can get away with going in the same places where their kids take a break.
