Sorry guys, must have overlooked the notification - and you're right, it definitely is a tough one.

So, like any technical problem, first step was trying to break down into simple elements, and I think you may have given me a couple of gaps in the key information:

  • Totally alone    vs    Commune of 30 nice, chilled, free-peeing, sexy men and women
  • Internet    vs    No internet
  • No videocalling   vs   No comms of any form
  • some unspecified food & drink    vs   adequate supplies of food and drink (including southern French red wine and single malt whisky)

Is there any food or drink on the desert island, do I have to cultivate and forage my own...? That could be a big decider.  And ok, no video calls but are there any other person-to-person comms on the desert island?  Can I email converse with loved ones?

Well, being in a group of 30 people with free reign to enjoy my and their pee would be like a dream come true... at least on the face of it. Today I can only dream of it, but with the internet I do enjoy being in the virtual company of you fine people.  And if I'm in that commune I don't have the internet access...

In respect of the other parts of my life, on the desert island then if I can continue to be in text, email (and maybe voice call) contact with real life family and friends, and I can keep up to date with current affairs and the vast resources of YouTube, Google etc not to mention unlimited porn and of course peefans....  The down side is I probably end up with a coconut for sole 'real' company....

Today I don't have the commune at my disposal, I consider what I have is the next best thing - the virtual commune. I think to be honest I can cope ok with that, I think the desert island may not be so bad - on the proviso that the unlimited internet includes typed out comms with family & friends.  So on that basis I'll go desert island.

However...

If you're telling me I can have the internet but without the ability to use it to email, text chat or communicate with family at all then that may be a different matter altogether.  Similarly the idea of ample food and fine drink without the risk of starving myself are strong motivators - If those are the limitations then I may as well be in the commune after all...

A reply as carefully considered as that deserves the response 'yes, you have adequate provisions of food and drink on the desert island, and yes, you can have text-based communications with your family'.

Enjoy your year-long stay on the desert island. I'm sure you can fashion a more than adequate 'companion' from what you'll find there. Much better than a coconut. It'll be something to do. I expect when I rescue you to find you happily spending time with the best wooden male masturbating device ever constructed without power tools.

With all the benefits of internet shopping at my fingertips I'll see what I can get airdropped in....    🤣😀

Feel free to answer one, both or neither of these. One is a little heavier than the other.

What are your views on the Leica M series of cameras? Awesome or waste of money? I think they look really cool (I love rangefinder cameras in general) and give me a strange nostalgic feeling. I'll never own one but they're nice to look at and read about

leica-m10_silver.jpg

What is it like being male? I'm asking because in the 30+ years of my life I've only ever seen it from a female point of view. Being a girl is all I've ever known. I'm sure this will be difficult to answer because to you it's just "normal", it's all you have ever known lol

That's a beautiful camera, classic except for the digital format but that's OK.  One of the Rolls-Royce's of cameras, and at $8,000 it ought to be.

Still, would love to own one.

What's it like being a male? Hmm.... for me it's trucks, guns, and a wild wet and willing wife.

I think your husband needs to own one, @Sophie, and have it ready and waiting the next time you pee on the kitchen floor.

And I think the resulting top quality pics should be shared with us for our appreciation. 😀

Cheers @Sophie - Both are great questions, so here goes.

The Leica are indeed great cameras, in build, in quality and in reputation.   Realistically though the best camera is the one you have in your hand. For most people that's their phone, but it doesn't really matter what it is - the fact you're using it is the key.  Would I buy the M8...  actually I think not.

If I were to own a Leica it in reality would probably be a vintage film Leica, an M2 or M3.  They are all truly are things of beauty, and in the right hands do take great pictures. There is a certain definite 'pose value' to them, a being seen with the right item effect.  It I want to shoot digital, then I've got better tools in my toy box to use, if I want to look at something of beauty and be able to enjoy using it, then the Leica is definitely an option.

It's a bit like the new Landrover Defender - a very expensive vehicle which truly divides opinion.  Personally I'd prefer an old style Defender 90 any day and I'd be happy to own a Series II or III.

Now, being a guy....    Well I enjoy it.   I've never been on the other side either, so forgive if it seems like I'm talking cliches and juvenile stereotypes.

As a guy it's sort of simple - I'm just me.  I have this perception that it would be so much harder to be a girl. As a guy there doesn't feel to be any pressure to wear makeup, to have my hair perfect before I start work for the day. I could probably wear a similar outfit five days a week and not get people commenting on it behind my back.   There is also of course that old cliche that a guy who has dozens of girls is a stud to be admired, whereas the girl with lots of gentleman 'friends' is the lowest of the low.

I'm probably conditioned into being the hunter-gatherer, the DIY-er, the car fixer etc, so there is a danger I'm more stuck in gender stereotypes that I imagine.  Don't get me wrong though - I don't believe I'm the superior gender - I do believe in a lot of ways society historically has made things so much easier for guys.

So what's it like being male - It's being able to wake in a morning - stumble into the bathroom and pee free-hand (mostly) into the toilet whilst standing over it and brushing teeth. Run a hand through my hair, grab the first clothes from the wardrobe and put them on. It's being able to take my car to the garage and explain a problem to the mechanic without him turning to my husband because I obviously wouldn't understand technical things.  It's about being able to have a joke with the guys at work and a very good chance of no bitchy undertones or long term grudges and worries being held.  Walking down a street without feeling eyes undressing me or worse. Being able to look at an arousing image, very quickly feel myself becoming erect, switching instantly into a turned on state, masturbate, clean up and go back to whatever I was doing (maybe that's not solely a man thing?).  For that matter it can be about being able to jump on my wife, fumble awkwardly for five minutes, adopt the missionary position for another five, climax and be asleep 10 minutes later believing 'we' have just made beautiful love...

(Other guy attitudes are available...)

One thing about being male is having to deal with living in an almost continuous state of sexual arousal,  beginning at about age 11 and continuing into the early 30s.  There are times when it is difficult to even think about anything else.  The urge is completely undiscriminating (if that is actually a word.)  Every woman or girl who is anywhere nearby immediately triggers further arousal and mental speculation about her as a possible sex partner.

Some men have told me they actually didn't experience this,  but that is how it was for me.

Thanks for the prompt - I completely forgot about the spontaneous erections....  sitting at your desk, not even thinking about sex and before you know it you suddenly look like the guy smuggling a canoe in his pocket - for pretty much no reason.  It's not a good omen for the young guys around here that I'd forgotten it - a sign of times to come...

But yes, that is another guy thing - having two brains, one of them with a single thought process and able to completely override the logical one whenever it chooses.

As a photographer myself, personally I think it is a potentially neat idea, especially if you have a size or weight limit like if traveling, however if you don't have these limits I personally think the standard ones (Nikon, Sony, Canon) are still mostly better

glden,  what things do you typically photograph?

Thanks for asking. To be totally honest, shortly before lockdown I had a bit of a rethink and effectively stepped back from quite a few aspects.  I ran a one-man self employed professional photography business for 12 years in parallel with a normal day job and family - so decided enough was enough.  Now I photograph the jobs I want to do for enjoyment rather than what everyone else wants.

So, historically I've offered my services to photograph:

  • - Weddings, of which I've probably done about 60 over the period
  • - Studio portraits (unfortunately almost all clothed)
  • - Events - Proms, balls that type of thing including print on site instant photo sales and a couple of big fair events
  • - Corporate - Product and premises, a couple of schools etc.
  • - Live music - I have a corporate venue who I work very closely with, and a large number of their bands (including an annual festival) - quite a huge event and total blast

These days I still work with the same live music clients and one of the outdoor fairs - the good fun bits.  And to touch on your other post, I went down the Nikon route.

Awesome.  Personally I do scenic/landscape/architecture as well as animal photography.  I am very early on just trying to get a photography career started however, so if you could maybe message me ideas, tools and tips, I would greatly appreciate that.

Beyond that I shoot Nikon myself, however I also use an older film camera for BW shots

Full kudos on shooting film - I love my vintage cameras too:

(Nikon D800 / D3  and from time to time '68 Bronica S / '69 Nikon F / '80s Pentax 645)

Well, I may as well answer that here - you never know there may be a few people interested.  I have to say, I'm not the most successful photographer in the world and haven't got all the answers, but here's a few things I learned and a few tips:

  • Firstly the bad news, making money from photography is harder than ever before - everyone has a phone right in their pocket, standards of what looks like a 'good' photo are shaped by the rubbish that gets shared across social media and the news outlets etc don't pay for work any more (sorry).
  • But there are still outlets - often just a case of what doors open and close, sometimes doing 'loss leader' work.  I've covered charity events for free and gained bookings for weddings, corporate etc at them. It may not be exactly what you're used to and in your comfort zone.
  • Know your camera inside out... it's limitations, it's best way of working etc and always have a backup plan - spare kit etc. A lot of commercial work real time work (events, weddings etc) are more about your interaction and ability to engage confidently with the client and direct them how you want them etc, without fumbling with the buttons on your camera.
  • If you're working in a sector / event etc where other photographers also operate, try and stand out - have a unique touch or style which people can recognise as you; try and be consistent.
  • Fast turn around of work is key - I use Lightroom, perfect to be able to upload, downselect, do basic batch edits and exports.  If there's a few photographers all covering an event and you can get your work out to them first then you've got the job - they can get your name out there on your images.
  • If a prospective client or job doesn't seem right then walk away.
  • If you're working professionally make sure you've got the commercial indemnity / 3rd party liability insurance as well as equipment insurance covered. British terms, not sure if they translate worldwide but essentially protecting you against accidentally injuring someone or damaging something.
  • Have fun - and always make out on social media how much of a blast you're having, how much you love working with these clients etc...
  • Finally - Good Luck

I have a D7500 for DSLR and for film I use an old Minolta SRT 101.

My ideal is to sell pictures from my travels. ie At like fairs, festivals, etc.  I definitely know my camera and almost always use Manual mode with auto focus assist at this point in time. Lightroom is also my go to, and when I actually try, I can have quick turn around.  For the personal shots I take my time haha. Yes your Brit terms are used over here in the states so what you said makes sense. Having fun is ALWAYS a key to it.   And thank you, because luck is definitely needed.

@gldenwetgoose Furthermore, are we allowed to link personal websites? Or is that not allowed.  Figured since you're a mod I'd ask first 😃

Well, thanks for asking!  It's basically covered by rules #10 & #14 - What we don't want is for people to treat the site as a sales pitch to coax members away.  So for example to a pay-per-view site.  Also a few months ago we found an issue where people were joining and immediately trying to drive traffic to their OF pages - and we introduced the amendment into the rules. (I'm sure you've already found the rules pages).

But, if your site can site alongside Peefans and posting a link to it adds value here in some way (like someone having videos on Erome for members here to browse to and enjoy) then you're welcome to link to it.

Hope that hasn't totally confused!

I was more thinking to my personal photography site since we were talking photography.  Yes I read the rules but they weren't completely clear like in this case of a non pee site, but related to what we are talking about aha

Got you - I'd see no problem at all including a link in your bio to it or perhaps a topic in the General area - assuming it's not just a sales site, but think we've covered that ground.

If you were to have a theme tune, what would it be?

Good question...  and after a few other thoughts I'm going to go with The Beatles - With A Little Help From My Friends.

A couple of people know my connection with The Beatles, but that's only a small part of the choice.

Instead it's very much about the lyrics.  If you asked me what the most important thing in life was, I guess it would be friendship - I don't have a massive circle of friends in reality, I'm not the life and soul of the party, there are times in the past I've felt very alone. I'm not generally alone - but I remember well what it feels like.  Sometimes it can feel like I'm the one providing the support and friendship to all around me, sometimes I just want to be asked if I'm ok. I'd probably say yes irrespective...   Other times I feel incredibly privileged by the friendship shown by those around me as they support me.

So let's have a theme celebrating friendship and helping each other out.  There you go...  Goose's Theme

Just a word of caution. Your website may have personal information, which might link your real name to your alias on this site.
