The technology is available now, it's just expensive to get into it. A PC VR like Oculus Rift, or Vive can cost almost $2000. There is a PS4 version for games as well, this one is available for $500, but pretty much games only. A lot of people on PS4 report episodes of motion sickness, not something I've noticed on my cheap phone version.

To look all around a room, you need vr360 which is basically a panorama that goes all the way around, hence 360. I can make these on my Sony phone, just Pics though, not videos. POV means point of view, and it's just what it looks like, being splattered on, lol. Again, a standard GoPro (fisheye lens) can do this quite well. The other type floating around is the split screen version, filmed with 2 cameras side by side. To view these, you just need software on your phone, and a phone holder that looks like VR goggles. I haven't, being semi retired does that to you, lol. When I was running my small Internet / web hosting business, I employed a tiny Russian girl, weighed 45kg dripping wet, but what she could do with notepad was incredible. She was not shy, if you know what I mean, and I suspected that she was having some extra work fun while going potty. The glazed eyes, the unsteady walk and the faint musky smell were kind of a give away. Hmmm. Never heard of the poor guy not falling in before, strange concept.
