rajpatel1993 185
If any of you on here have ever had an ultrasound before, could you describe what it is like to have a full bladder before an ultrasound, what an ultrasound feels like, and how it feels like to pee after the ultrasound is finished? Popular Post Bacardi 10,132
I had one with all of my pregnancies, which didn't all require a full bladder but I still filled up because I was told it was optimal. It's torture. Having to pee so badly and then having them press the want into your abdomen. My first I had literally almost peed all over the examination table, and as they were going over the results I had my legs crossed till they released me and I ran to the bathroom, leaving my husband behind lol. I hear it's worse with inter vaginal ultrasounds, or whatever they're called. 2 1 7 Link to post

Lilipee 673
I completely filled for my first ultrasound in my first pregnancy. I wasn't told to, but i heard that it was something pregnant women needed to do. Of course i arrived at the office full and had to wait a very long time to be seen. There was an issue with scheduling or something. Anyway, when the tech started the ultrasound, she commented on my full bladder and asked if i did that for her. I said i did and she said thanks, but it wasn't nescessary. Apparently a full bladder is only needed very early in a pregnancy. As the bladder sits behind the uterus, filling up will push the uterus closer to the edge which helps capture the images. Once the pregnancy has progressed enough and the baby has grown, the added pressure isn't needed. So i had to endure the whole scan in complete misery. I needed to pee so very bad. I don't even remember the relief after. All i remember is the pain during it. 2 Link to post

mickymoist 3,513
I had an ultrasound some years ago as a precaution for some lower abdominal pain, also had to have a full bladder, you get to sit in a waiting room with some very fidgety ladies! 3 Link to post

I vaguely remember needing one for an ovarian cyst and I thought I remembered seeing in the pamphlet that a full bladder was required, but as you can imagine those exams arent too comfortable so as soon as I stopped feeling pain I cancelled the appointment lol. 1 Link to post
Popular Post Mamabear93 66
It is very uncomfortable for sure! They tell you to drink a crazy amount of water and a lot of times your appointment is running late, so you're holding your pee foreverrrr. Then they put cold jelly on your abdomen and press a little wand HARD onto your bladder while you struggle not to pee yourself. One OB clinic I went to actually had a disclaimer on their website saying not to be embarrassed if you wet yourself, because "it is common". Luckily I never did, but I saw another woman do it. I had just got done with my ultrasound and raced to the bathroom for the longest pee of my life... I opened the stall door afterwards just as a panicked woman clamored in, undoing a drawstring on her pants with one hand and holding herself with the other. I heard her practically pissing a hole through the toilet as I stood at the sink, but when she came out she went to the front desk with pants wet to the knees, so she obviously didn't quite make it. They made her reschedule because she hadn't even been seen yet and a full bladder was required. 2 5 Link to post
Popular Post Kelly2699 64
For my ultrasound I was told to drink 1.5 liters of water 2 hours before my appointment. The morning of the appointment I did my morning routine as usual. I downed the 1.5 liters of water. I was pretty desperate when I left the house, the drive to the clinic was terrible, I felt every bump. When I arrived at the clinic I slowly got out of my car and walked inside the clinic. I went to the receptionist desk and told me to sign these papers and then sit down and wait so I did. I only waited 10 minutes ( felt like 2 hours ). The doctor called me back and I was BURSTING as I walked back to the ultrasound room. The doctor told me to lay down on the table. I winced as the water sloshed in my bladder as I climbed on the table. I pulled my pants down to my hips and lifted my shirt up and the doctor put the ultrasound jell on my belly. The doctor pushed the ultrasound probe into my upper belly and slowly moved it down towards my bladder, pressing harder. I was sure I would pee myself. My bladder was screaming for relief and I was trying so hard not to pee. She moved the probe over my bladder and pressed, I said "I can't hold it anymore, I really need to pee" she said "If you pee now you will have to reschedule". She pushed and prodded my bladder for the next 15 minutes and then she told me to roll onto my side, so I did. She placed the ultrasound probe on my lower back, she reached her hand around to my belly and presses and I leaked alot 2 1 1 8 Link to post

Peevert 934
I was once an outpatient registration clerk at a hospital. Whenever I'd get a full bladder ultrasound patient, I'd register her In slow motion. Never got to see one wet, but the "I'm gonna pee my pants. I'M GONNA PEE MY PANTS!" And the squirming were wonderful. 😁 BTW there's another full bladder test called a voiding cystosomethingorother where you actually have to pee on the xray table during the test! I should have been a uroradiologist. 😆 1 1 Link to post

Popular Post Alygal1331 571
I've had to have ~5 uterine ultrasounds for various reasons over the past 3 years... the need to pee is torture! I have a pretty strong bladder (I often go 8-12 hours without peeing without even thinking about it) and thought I would be okay. I've never had issues with stress incontinence or any spurts coming out because of an overfull bladder. They told me to drink 1L of water 1 hour before the appointment. Within 20 minutes, I needed to pee pretty good. I still had 40 minutes until I would even be seen! I was pacing the waiting room and sitting in a chair bouncing my leg. A few other women were doing the same thing or looking at me knowingly... The first ultrasound went fine and they had a bathroom attached to the room, I ran in after and it was heavenly to release all the pee I had been holding for so long. Unfortunately I had definitely had a couple small spurts wet my underwear during the exam, so those were damp but it didn't go through to my pants. The second ultrasound, I knew more what to expect. For this one though, the ultrasound technician told me my bladder was TOO FULL and I had to go let some pee out. That was the hardest thing I've had to do lol, I almost couldn't stop (meaning I would have to come back again) but I managed. Getting to let it all out afterward was the most relieving feeling because every time they pressed down with the wand, I could barely control my bladder muscles now that they had been tested. I certainly leaked quite a bit more than the first time... I left a small damp spot behind on the table, which was embarrassing. Third time, I drank slightly less because I did not want to go through that again, but it didn't help much, I still almost wet myself on the table and waddled to the bathroom after. Once again, a couple small spurts came out while they were pushing down with the wand, so my underwear was certainly a bit damp, but less so than last time. My two most recent ones, I came up with a genius idea... I would wear a depends diaper (with the elastic waistband) which would allow for some leakage! I was wearing baggy sweatpants anyway (they always managed to get the gel on my clothes so good idea to wear older clothing!) so the diaper didn't show. I was being seen for crazy heavy periods anyway, so I figured the ultrasound tech wouldn't say anything or look at me weird for wearing a diaper haha. The first one I went to the bathroom after (and my diaper was a little bit damp but that was expected). The most recent time, there were 3 people lined up outside the single-stall they had available (the other two were out of order!) and I knew that was easily a 4-5 minute wait. No way I was going to stand there shifting my weight and fidgeting for that long! I was about a 5 minute drive from home, so I figured I would just get in my car and go home. Bad news on my drive home though... the intersection that would get me home had a major vehicle accident at it, so I had to take a 15 minute detour to drive way around it. During this drive, I was jiggling my leg up and down and had my hand pressed between my legs, trying to contain myself. As I was sitting at a complete standstill, I realized that I was wearing a diaper. I had never let this full of a bladder out in a simple depends diaper though, so I figured to avoid leaks, I would just let out a few spurts to take the edge off. Well... the first few spurts were okay, hard to cut off but I didn't want to lose control. My bladder had other ideas though, and each spurt became longer and harder to cut off... soon enough I was peeing out a completely full bladder uncontrollably into my diaper, sitting there in traffic! I couldn't stop the flow, it just kept coming and I could hear the hissing for what felt like an eternity... I had to accept it after that point, and it felt so good to let it all out. After what had to have easily been 60 seconds or more, it finally tapered off. I could feel the diaper around me swollen and warm, but couldn't tell if I had leaked yet... I wiggled a little bit and lifted off my seat, and discovered that yup, I had definitely leaked out the leg holes a little. There was more liquid in there that hadn't been absorbed yet, so I carefully settled back down, but felt another small gush come out the leg holes. It was a soggy (and excited/horny) drive back home. Luckily, it was nearly dark out and I was wearing black sweatpants so no neighbours saw any leaks. My leather seats would dry off... I waddled inside and stripped down, and got myself off with my vibrator in less than 30 seconds. I haven't had an accident like that again but it was so exciting 😛 3 5 4 Link to post
