Yes, this is pretty common. Street urinals in Amsterdam are specially interesting, except maybe for the stinking smell around them. I have been using them a few times as well. As they are pretty much open and there is a large gap at the bottom of the enclosing fence, a woman using these urinals is basically showing everything to passers by, but who the hell could blame me for urinating in a urinal, when there are no other, more woman-friendly options in Amsterdam ?

@vanessa9Can you tell us a bit more about how and when you use them?

I‘m sure it is from klogeschichten.net.

But this board is not really worth to visit. It is full of fake accounts and fictional stories claimed to be real.

What it makes it even worse is that naughty peeing and messing is banned there.

Are there any other good German forums? Wasn’t there a predecessor to klogeshichten that was less restrictive?

That's so cool ! We're there any other places people used to relieve themselves ? Where did the men go ?

As I mentioned in the post many people (men and women) peed in corners of underground parking garage and on the street outside. Some also peed in the hotel’s courtyard/garden but even that got really packed eventually. I peed out a window so I assume some others probably did the same. The stairwell was the only place I saw people peeing on an indoor/carpeted area but who knows it could have happened in other rooms or hallways I did not see.

One movie scene that definitely influenced me during my formative years was The Goonies. There's the scene where Mikey says "Pee break, who's gotta go?" and Andi and Steph (the girls) both say "Me." Then Mikey proceeds to point out the "Little boys room" and "Little girls room" in the caves.

That scene always excited me to think about Andi and Steph popping squats in the cave.

    Agreed. Me too.

  5. @Sarah_Hiker31 how do you feel about peeing on hard surfaces outside (like parking lots, sidewalks etc.)?  In more urban or suburban areas to you bother to find a bathroom or just squat in a convenient place?

I read in your picnic post that you went with your sister. Have you always peed outside with your sister?

Also, I tried to DM you regarding the picnic post and something you may find interesting but I think your DMs are blocked. DM me if you are interested. Thanks!

I remember the shopping centre that we live fairly near to. All day bigger stores were at one end of the shopping mall and the toilets used to be at the opposite end. It was very common for kids to play outside in the square, while the mums were in the shops. With no toilets in the vicinity, you had to find a bit of privacy when you needed to go. There was a little opening with a stairwell that went up. There was not much up on the top balcony, a couple of offices, but nobody used those stairs to access them. When mums were in a hurry, boys were often told to go against the wall near the stairs. Sometimes the girls went in the corner with the mums blocking them. The older girls used to go up a flight of stairs where there was a landing and then on the landing on the top of the stairs.

@Bertsmall I assume from your other posts this was in the UK?  It seems like in the UK and US, locations where parents regularly allow peeing outdoors are often in green areas (bushes, trees, grass etc.) where it usually soaks in and does not leave a mess. However, this sounds like this was all hard surfaces where you would leave a puddle and possibly smell if they were used frequently. Were the stairs and patio enclosed or open to the elements so they would be cleaned by the rain?

Did they start to smell like pee from regular use?

Did parents care where you peed in there? Could you pee any way you liked (down the stairs, on handrails for fun)?

How old were you when you started peeing there and the last time you peed there?

  7. The wets spots, puddles, streams and markings left on dry surfaces.

The ambiguity of where and in what context its ok to pee. I.e. peeing on the sidewalk is pretty taboo in many areas of the US during the day but could be acceptable in another place like Spain.

Women selfishly putting their relief ahead of any concerns about leaving a mess.

Thinking back to potty training age and being warmly guided to pee wherever I needed to even if that left a mess. Being guided to pee in these places where it might not have been considered ok in other countries or contexts.

Yeah I remember some. There were 2 to 3 huge trees in the parks we went to and all of those trees were pee spots. Those trees weren't near bushes either but the trunks were big enough to hide you from the back/front (whichever side is facing the tree) though you'd be completely exposed from the other side. However, even in the parks, people wouldn't just pee anywhere. It would always be in those unspoken pee spots.

Another obvious spot would be by the lakes. There were bushes around it but those werent dense enough to cover anyone completely, but just partially if someone's squatting there. Particular spots would be unofficially claimed by the families having picnics nearby and I remember being taken near the lakes to pee.

Super obvious spots would obviously be the walls near pubs. Super public and super crowded but men and women alike would pee against those walls while chatting with friends and no one would bat an eyelid.

Large trees are always funny because they are almost more a social signal that you are being sightly civilized by using the tree rather than the tree actually providing significant cover. They also seem less effective for girls who ca be viewed from one side or another depending on if they are facing or back to the tree.

I agree that people tended to choose pee spots and stick to them in France. In Spain there were frequently used pee spots but peeing was not limited to those places. It was often a free-for-all and it would not be unusual to stop right in the middle of a park path when the need arose.

Yeah same ! Specially in parks where there were "designated" spots for kids to pee and none of those areas were particularly private.

Yeah, I always thought the pee spots and pee trees were interesting.  They were not bathrooms or as you say particularly private and yet somehow they became communally agreed upon places for repeatedly peeing. How did that happen?

I can remember a few spots. At one park there was a big tree that was not near anything and offered little privacy but it was considered the pee tree.  We peed on all sides of it because no side was more private and no one cared. At another park there was a stone wall everyone marked. It was super obvious when you were peeing on it and super obvious after because you left a wet mark. At another playground there was a paved area in the corner without equipment that had a small hedge that only partially blocked view from one side. I especially remember the girls squatting to pee and being taken to pee in that area.

Do you remember any of your pee spots?

  10. Yes, I carry tissues in the car. If you need a wipe I an assist 🙂

I remember the nannies and my aunts in Spain and France always carried tissues in their purses for wiping. I've observed this to just be more common in Europe where people are used to peeing outside compared to the US where its the exception to the rule.
