German Autobahn Parkplatz peeing

Does anyone else love German autobahn stops for peeing? The combination of frequent parkplatz rest stops every few km, many without toilets, and German cultural openness to peeing is perfect for public peeing and pee watching. The driving culture also means people concentrate on driving fast on the road and pull over to take breaks to rest, eat or drink (and pee).  This is unlike the US or other countries where people drive slow, snack and drink while driving and stop less frequently. I’m not sure why but even countries like France and Spain that are otherwise very open to public peeing seem to have less pee action at their highway stops. 

 

Growing up we would often take long road trips on the autobahn. My father would often pick up a fast German car at the factory every summer and we would drive around Germany and on to other countries where we had friends and relatives. In the 70s, 80s and 90s few autobahn parkplatz would have toilets. On of my earliest memories was flying along at triple digit speeds in the back seat of a fast Mercedes, my parents pulling over at a Parkplatz and telling me we were going to have a snack at the scenic outlook. It was a beautiful sunny summer day and were a few other cars and trucks. I got out to stretch my legs, walked over to a picnic table and sat down as my mother went to the trunk to fetch pastries, bread and cheese. we had bought earlier. Shortly after that a station wagon pulled up with a family with a daughter and a son roughly my age. The son ran my direction, stopped at the edge of the grass pulled down his pants and began to pee an arc into the grass. The mother and daughter walked over smiled at me and the mother picked up her daughter and held her in a squat so she could pee in the grass. My mother had approached the table with the food just as the son was finishing up a long pee. Seeing me watch the others peeing she asked me if I also had to “go pipi” and told me “you can go pipi here.”  This was at first surprising because in the US she would have urged me to go somewhere more hidden. With that I got up from the table took a few steps and peed my own arc onto the grass and splashed it around a bit onto the leaves of a near by bush. My mother made some comments to the other mother, who after helping her daughter finish up indicated she was also going to pee. With that the other mother took a few steps behind a bush that somewhat obscured her from the parking but was still totally in my view. She was an attractive blonde women wearing a summer dress. She reached up under her dress, pulled down her panties and assumed a low squat. I watched as she peed a frothy puddle in front of her onto the ground. While doing that she talked to both her kids about getting snacks from the car, smiled and made eye contact with me. She was not at all bothered I was watching her.  After that each of out families ate a snack, got into our cars and went our separate ways. 

 

From then on I was forever excited by autobahn parklatz. I thought it was awesome that when we stopped at one I could pretty much pee anywhere I wanted without hiding and it was highly likely I would observer others. I can remember holding my pee just to get on the autobahn and have a big pee at the first stop. I found many times at a young age that no one cared if I peed in front of them or if I watched them pee at these parkplatz. I’ve had countless sightings over the years which I can write when I have time.  These days when I’m in Germany and driving I often get excited just getting on the Autobahn, thinking of old memories and what the first rest stop may bring. Unfortunately they seem to be installing more toilets on the parkplatz every year, but there are still many without and many people skip the toilets and pee outside anyway.

 

Does anyone else have autobahn pee experiences? 

Has anyone else found other EU countries that have as much public peeing on the road as German autobahns?

Rest areas like this are pretty common in Finland, too. Very few rest stops have actual toilet facilities (the places that have them have usually gotten vandalized pretty badly), but there is trees, bushes etc. for that purpose.

I have never driven in continental Europe, but it sounds like I really should!

I have stopped at a couple of places in the UK which are similar types of rest stops but which do have toilets and I have been there after they closed.  People pull off the road expecting to use the toilets, find them closed and then use bushes or similar.   The best one was at a large layby with a cafe.  The cafe had toilets behind it.   I was sat on a bench to one side of the cafe and I saw a BMW pull in to the parking area.   A man got out of the drivers seat and stood outside the car to smoke.  A woman got out of the passenger seat and she was wearing business attire - a white blouse, black straight skirt which came to just above the knees and a black jacket.  She was wearing tights and black high heels.   

The lady moved as quickly as she could down the concrete path to the cafe and went straight past the closed door and round the back to where the toilets are situated.   I started walking towards the toilets and I was quite close already, so rather than walking directly, I first walked perpendicular to the building to get in line with the path behind the building so that I could see, then I turned towards the toilets and was greeted with the most beautiful site of this lady with her skirt hitched up around her waist and knickers and tights at her knees.  She had moved to the back of the concrete path and was in a high squat with a flood pouring out of her onto the grass behind her.  I took in and enjoyed the view as I approached.   She was looking down between her legs and didn't notice me until I stepped onto the concrete path and she heard my steps.  By this time I was only a couple of metres away and she probably thought I had come down the same path as her.  I can't remember the exact wording of the conversation but it went something like this:   

Me: "I guess the toilets are closed then"
Woman:  laughed and said "Yes, so sorry about this, but I was desperate. "
Me: "Not a problem, I came for the same reason and I won't have any hesitation either, I'll just go along here"
I passed by her in front of her and so had a great side view on approach, saw between her legs a little as I passed (not much to see because of the angle and her legs were held close together by her skirt).
Woman: (still peeing) "I wasn't intending to flash my bum to the world, but I can't stop now"
Me: (Now turning back to her to answer her question as I had now passed her "I'm sure many people pee here when they find the toilets closed, but I would say most probably find a bush for a bit of cover"
At this point, her pee stream was just dwindling off.
Woman: "Believe me I would have preferred to find a bush, but that's not an option in these heals.  I would have just sunk in the mud."
Me: "Fair point, they can't be very off road friendly"
Woman:  Laughed again and turned towards me as she pulled up first her knickers, then her tights and finally pulled down her skirt back into place.   She smoothed it down. As she was doing all that, she commented "That's so much better, sorry you had to see that, but I really couldn't wait any longer."
Me: "No problem at all, have a safe trip".
Woman: "Thanks - enjoy your pee"

With that, she turned and walked more slowly back up the path to the car.

Do you end up seeing much pee action at Finish rest areas? Are people as open about peeing at them as the are in Germany or do they try to hide more?

I'm Dutch so Germany is pretty much around the corner (even though I live in the Holland-part of The Netherlands so in the west) and I come there often. Especially when I still had a fast car instead of the slow ass Kia Picanto I drive now I went to Germany for fun often and I have had multiple holidays there as well. And as you say, the big rest stops with gas stations are usually 200+ km apart (unless you're driving in densely populated areas like Ruhr obviously) with parking lots without facilities being present in abundance. Sometimes they do have a small toilet block but usually badly maintained and you smell them from a mile away.

I have seen AND done a lot of pissing in German parking lots, usually against trees or fences but also a couple of times right next to my car and one time when it was dark and I was feeling naughty outside against the wall of the toilet building. As for sightings, the best ones were ofcourse from my own girlfriend, who usually pees on the tarmac squatted between the front and rear door of our car. Just the first couple of times she squatted behind a bush or against a fence, but her shoes got dirty so she didn't bother walking in mulch later. Also she values her privacy a lot and nobody ever sees her when she's squatted between the doors as her head is lower than the window and I am covering from the front, so she can piss freely. 

Another fun one but not on a Parkplatz: we were trapped in a "Stau" for over 3 hours. And I literally mean trapped, there was an accident not far in front of us closing of the entire highway, but we had already passed the Starting point of the detour that was put in place as it wasn't there yet when we drove there. People started playing football on the highway, having picknicks etc. And eventually my gf couldn't hold it anymore, so she squatted and pissed an enormous amount on the hard shoulder. And obviously other people saw this time as you are packed on top of each other in a traffic jam. Fun part was that she apparently broke the seal for other ladies, as suddenly more women started squatting on the hard shoulder while before she went only a couple of men peed.

Yes, I recognize this. I often go to Germany for holiday and when driving on the autobahn I usually go to "parkplatze" without toilet. Big chance to see someone peeing there. Mostly men, but sometimes I also see women going on the bushes.

I loved this about my time in Germany, they have a much freer attitude towards peeing (and sex for that matter) than even many other European nations.  Saw many people peeing in parkplatz male and female whilst there. 
 

Back home in the U.K. it’s less common but most A roads have lay-bys that don’t have any facilities and you’ll usually see signs that people have peed there, but since they’re so small and there’s so many I expect if someone needs to pee they’ll drive past any with vehicles stopped in them already until they find a completely empty one so you’re far less likely to see anything.

Not much, really. Some people are more open and some people try to hide more. I personally don't walk very far to the woods so if someone else comes to the rest stop, they will probably see what I'm doing, lol.

I can't really pass comment on the German situation - but as you asked about other EU countries, I've recently been spending quite a lot of time in mainland Spain.

My travels have taken me across the country, well away from the touristy costa areas and most recently was a 1600km road trip.  The vast majority was on motorway roads, where stopping on the hard shoulder for anything other than a breakdown is I believe illegal.  These had periodic picnic areas which consisted of a service road off the motorway, usually with parking at the kerbside on either side.  No facilities other than rubbish bins, and most of the ones I passed seemed quite open with no trees.  I didn't stop at any, and those I passed seemed quite unused - just the odd van or lorry.

Perhaps the reason was that alternating with these were fairly frequent (every 50km or so) fuel stops, most of which were a petrol station with a decent cafe attached and ample toilet facilities.

 

In contrast, all the rest of my recent travels have been to a fairly rural area with twisty roads between towns 30km apart and very few facilities.  There I'd noted that in the occasional farm tracks off the road and turning points there seemed to be an abundance of tissues.  (There's a post about it here https://peefans.com/topic/21651-half-life-of-a-tissue-does-anyone-know/?do=findComment&comment=295588)

I've only once passed a car stopped, with door open and what looked like a passenger squatting at the side of the road - but on the opposite side, so no detail to be glimpsed.   I'd definitely say it happens quite regularly though.

@JDG numerous times I was stuck in a “Stau” and experienced exactly what you are talking about. Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, my family and I were driving on the Autobahn to Berlin when traffic came completely to standstill for hours with a Stau. I remember climbing around the car, trying to amuse myself and standing on the center console looking out the sunroof. Some men and a few women farther our had ventured into the adjacent field to pee. The car in front of us was an east German family in a light blue Trabant. After about 30 minutes the mother opened the passenger door and let her daughter out. It was a very hot day and she was wearing a sun dress and no shoes. She got out rubbing her eyes and stretching as if she had just woken up from a nap in the car.  She standing near the Trabi’s back fender on the hard shoulder of the autobahn facing backwards towards me but seeming not to pay attention to me at all. She reached up under her dress for her panties and I knew exactly what was likely to happen next. She squatted down with her dress hiked up and her panties around her knees in a low squat. Soon a stream emerged from her squat, producing a puddle on the dry tarmac. She looked down at her crotch and the puddle as she was making it. When she finished she continued to look down and swayed side to side slightly perhaps to shake off some drops. The puddle continued to spread. She then stood up slowly looking around the scenery and pulling up her panties which at first caught in her dress until her mother hoped out of the car and straightened her out. Then the son emerged from the car, pulled down his pants and peed an arc onto the guardrail and a bit over into the grass. Within the next hour many others would break the seal. The mother in front of us, who was fit, young and also wearing a summer dress and sandals opened the door, got out and much like her daughter gazed back into the traffic. Standing quite near the open door she quickly reached under her dress and in one movement took her panties to her knees and squatted. Immediately she produced a furious stream on the tarmac as she gazed straight past me at the traffic behind us. She produced a bigger puddle than her daughter which had little streams in all directions. She bounced up and down a couple of times, quickly pulled up her panties and stepped away to the back of the car to avoid her puddle and get something from the trunk. At that point I decided I would get out of the car and walk around. I witnessed multiple people peeing. Near the center divide a brunette mom in a dress was making a puddle that ran under her car while her son peed on the guardrail. A hippy looking group of young women in a van were listening to music, got out and squatted behind the van making an audible splatter... 

 

I love Stau’s. I would almost try to get myself stuck in a mid-summer stau if I could.

Lol, you're very right. An added bonus in the Stau I described was that we were right on top of a big hill with an almost 80 degree slope. So people couldn't wander off into the adjecent field for privacy and had no choice but to pee right there on the tarmac.

The first "parkplatz" after a "stau" is always also good for a bonus. Men going in the field, mothers lifting their children to pee in the grass and women bursting in a row for the toilet or even also using the bushes as a urinal.

Since it was 70s and the German mom peed right in front of you it must have made for quite a sight with her squatting low, her full natural blond pubic hair exposed along with her slit, you were truly a lucky young man to have witnessed this slice of heaven there.

I have the impression that public peeing has become much less common for women at the Parkplätze. Maybe because of smartphone's cameras? Germans are known for valuing privacy (they helped dream up GDPR)...

Also, the parking infrastructure along Autobahnen is being renewed and improved, with many of the old small parkings giving way to less frequent but huge stopovers mainly destined for truckers.

But it definitely helps that toilets at the bigger stations are expensive to use (I believe it's around 70 cents, regardless of what you do in there) and those at smaller parkings are notoriously dirty (maybe to push people towards using the revenue generating places). So yes, smart people use the smaller parkings and go into the bushes. But as many women are less keen to expose themselves in public than men would like, I feel the proportion of sexes is not equally distributed. Also, the fewer ladies seem to venture further into the bushes or stay very close to their vehicle.

Have seen less public peeing in other countries, as toilets tend to be free (or included in the toll you pay there). But definitely it happens in other countries around the continent as well.
