When a user is currently online (or at least very very recently online) you'll notice that their avatar will now have a green glow around it when viewing a thread, or a little green dot next to their name when viewing a private message. 

Personally I think it's helpful to be able to see when someone is online without actually checking the online list. For example, you might notice that green glow and decide you want to drop them a quick message - which you can also do right from the thread you're viewing by clicking the envelope button underneath their avatar. The aim is to make things just slightly easier and sleeker. In fact, I am pretty sure we used to have an online status indicator, but it must have got disabled somewhere down the line. 

However, if this is a change people aren't happy with, please let me know below. It doesn't have to stay!  🙂

I like it! I know there was an online status indicator in private messages but like you said, I don't think there was one on the forum itself.

I like how this is implemented, the halo looks neat.

Wow i was just wondering why my pic had a green light around it and then i came across this haha. It's good i think it looks really cool. But mabye we could be able to change the colour i would like a red light:)

Could this be made only for users who are signed in? As in you have to be signed in to see who else is online.

Idk, it just seems weird for non-members to need to see everything. If you look at online users, the majority are unregistered guests.

Oh yes I supposed something similar...

Anyway they already more or less can see everything… so bah… for me it's not a problem… if users see a stark difference between being online and not, the subject will maybe stir them even more into replying to somebody online… and this will bring them to register…
