Paulypeeps 5,292 Posted yesterday at 12:38 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:38 AM Does anyone here visit Second Life? I have been having a look around and it might be interesting, but was wondering if anyone else might be there too. https://secondlife.com/ Link to post

gldenwetgoose 21,506
Sounds great, I must admit I only looked as far as the splash screen on a quick glance. Have you used it, does it take a lot of effort to 'tune' characters' personalities onto our wavelength ? Is that possible? I'd be interested to see anyone's screen shots of what is possible. (Thanks for raising it) Link to post
numberten 1,316
I've been on SL for a long time. It can be fun to create your avatar and explore the world that people have created. There's an amazing amount to explore, and a lot of it is very well done. Unfortunately, socializing has changed -- and not in the way I'd have expected. It used to be that you could find a place in Search, pop in, and (if you were lucky) find a group of people dancing or chatting or interacting in some way. Most chat was text in a Conversation pane, but some people used voice. Now, a lot of places are abandoned, and if you do find an occupied spot, it's likely to be populated by avatars that are just standing around. They might be there, or they might be AFK (Away From Keyboard), but they seldom chat in the local conversation. If they're interacting with others, it's usually in a private chat. I'd have thought that COVID isolation would have driven more people to places like SL, and that those people would have been more likely to want to interact virtually, but it can seem like a world of zombies unless you find just the right places and people. Is that possible?... Yes, I have just dipped my toe in, and to get started at a basic level is easy, but to get the most out of it you do need to tune your avatar, and that can involve spending a small amount of money. The user interface is a bit geeky and not always intuitive. You can buy add-ons, I am not sure if any will suit our needs, but there are places that would suggest we are being catered for in some way in the more adult locations. Create an account and look around, it is free at the basic level - I have not spent any money yet. Link to post
