I am not sure if the Japanese squat toilets would be considered minimalist; they do have a "hood" on the front to capture forward pee streams, which I haven't obsered in European squat toilets.

I’m not sure if this link will work, or if this is the best place for it - but just spotted this little reel on FB. 

A huge outdoor squat urinal complex….  I know there’ll be those who didn’t see it as a problem having desperate ladies having to seek relief in a more public way.

I ran across the "Peequal" just recently when looking up festival peeing arrangements in response to the thread about Roskilde. It seems that festivals across Europe are starting to use these--the Pollee and Lapee in Denmark, the Peequal in the UK, and probably others.

It must be difficult finding a vacant squat urinal when it is busy!
