Odd way of the holding the penis when peeing

The male pee scene starts around 2:05 minutes and I noticed that the man has a strange way of holding his penis when doing the deed. His hand is sort of the other way around with the thumb and forefinger positioned on the base of the penis instead of the head (the way I have peed all my life, probably other men here too?). I wonder what is the point of this method of holding it? I guess it is some sort of old-timer thing I cannot understand. The hand position just feels awkward to me and aiming is harder this way.

Sorry if this is a dumb topic but this issue caught my eye and got me wondering.

I don't really "hold it" per se. More like direct it in the way I need to pee. So thumb on top of the shaft, probably about halfway and index and middle finger holding it up a bit on the underside, also about halfway.

I was thinking about the "covering up" explanation too but holding it the way you described covers the penis up just as well, especially if you keep both hands on your penis so you are covered from both sides. Also makes it easier to direct the stream and shake off the last drops when you are done. If you hold the way the man does it in that video, the penis is covered from only one side. 

I also found this photo on Wikimedia Commons where a man holds it in this manner.

Not that I can contribute to penis holding techniques here but I’d say that he’s probably done it to hide it…

Maybe. But holding it with the thumb and forefinger near the head hides it too and from both sides if you use both hands.

I still think holding with two hands would be weird…. Never seen anyone do that way either

The other hand is there for cover mostly, one hand does most of the actual holding.

Okay, first of all, I can't even begin to express how much I love "A Free Ride"! Secondly, that guy's holding method has confused the hell out of me ever since I first watched it nearly a decade ago. Does it not look completely counterintuitive? I actually went so far as to try it. On more than one occasion! Not only is it impractical, but it's extremely uncomfortable as well.

Yeah, must be about covering up. Is this a whole habit of uncomfortable but modest male peeing which has dropped out of popular practice because increasing use of bathrooms stopped guys being uncomfortably modest? 🤔

I wonder? The first time I saw it, it reminded me of old timey boxing. Like in that way that it doesn't seem logical?

Just another 'angle' on it...    The original question was from a porn movie someone had seen.

Now I know, if I was on a porn set there's a pretty good chance I'd have a raging hard on and if I could pee, would be aiming more for the ceiling than the beautiful target before me.

The solution would be to hold myself to point more downwards.   Now conventionally when I pee I use my fingers underneath to raise my penis up to the required forwards angle - so does it make sense to use four forefingers to regulate any erection downwards, rather than a single thumb pressing down.   The urethra is already under enough pressure from the erection around it without any more single point pressure.

I also posted a picture that was not taken in a porn set context. Also, the guy in the porn film seems flaccid too.

The thing is, when you take a pee outside or somewhere else "in public", most of the covering is done by choosing a good location. Like peeing on a tree so that you are turned away from everyone else. The hands are just a little extra coverage if someone happens to walk in from the side or something, and a regular "thumb and forefinger near the head" grip covers it up just fine from the side.

I found the picture on Google and it seems he is only holding with one hand. The other hand is just there for some extra coverage or holding the pants fly more open.

Hard to tell. But it definitely looks like the right hand does most of the holding and the left hand is just there on the side, look at the positioning of the left hand compared to the right one. Might have the left thumb on his shaft for some support, though, it's not really visible.

Another unusual way of holding it I saw in some video: the guy held his penis by pinching the skin on top of the shaft between his thumb and forefinger.
