Who uses a VPN when visiting this site?

I use a VPN because I don't want my ISP knowing what sites I visit.  Plus I believe (but not certain) it restricts target advertising.  Also, some places block adult content, and this site might be restricted in some places.  A VPN can override the restrictions.   

Is the membership map for this site based upon the users IP address?  If so, then that would explain why I'm not represented on the map where I'm truly from.   And if many use a VPN then the membership map isn't a reliable indicator of the locations of members. 

So, who typically uses a VPN besides me?  And why?  And who doesn't?

The site membership map is based solely on what you've chosen to type into your profile entry.   In your case it's what the map decides is 'Northeast USA',  or for example if you'd just said 'USA' it'd be in the middle of the nation.   If you happened to name a tiny village somewhere it would be a lot more specific.

I'm using Opera as my daily web browser, it has a (free) vpn built in that suits my needs. I use it on all sites now, not just this one.
