GOLDEN SHOWERS: The medical Term for Golden showers is urolagnia.

In advertisements that practitioners of deviant sex place to find each other they

often refer to this as "The Waterworks". In the practice people reach orgasm by

being urinated on. Usually, Men are the receivers in this practice. Because few men

can persuade their wives or girlfriends to accommodate them they usually have to find

a callgirl they can count on. Their excitement has two sources. The sound of the female

urinating and seeing the yellow stream. A good deal of preparation must be done by the

donor beforehand. When a regular customer calls the prostitute will quickly drink 8 to 10

beers about an hour or so before they arrive. Then she must retain the fluid until the customer

arrives and then the elaborate ritual takes place. A woman must have a strong and healthy

bladder to succeed in this practice.

Golden showers are generally viewed as an odd outlet that is acceptable to only a small number. It is not a practice that has wide appeal. However, with people we interviewed that enjoyed this practice reported being unable to function well, or at all, without it.

I think that the actual numbers interested in peeing, golden showers, and watersports, were always greatly under-estimated. This was due to a widespread sense of shame and isolation experienced by those who were interested in it,with them often being made to feel that such things were disgusting and dirty, and "perverted" in the sense that being "perverted" was equated with being a weirdo.

I can remember feeling this sense of isolation and shame myself in younger, pre-internet days, in spite of taking comfort from the obvious fact that I could not possibly be alone. Otherwise, whom would all that illicit pee porn be being made for? There was, however, no means of anonymously linking up with like-minded enthusiasts - and thereby discovering how essentially normal they mostly are - until the internet came along.

There is growing evidence that the numbers interested were always understated and are becoming less so now as the internet allows like minds to reach out to each other, reassure each other with each other's basic normality, and actually to speak out without being named and shamed. Increasing numbers of people are now admitting to some level of interest.

In a recent survey as many as 1 in 25 men admitted to a sexual interest involving pee, though only 1 in 100 women did so. I suspect this discrepancy to be due less to a lesser interest amongst women but more to a decreased likelihood of accessing fetish sites and sex sites in general. Which would of course result in more women stashing such interests away like a dirty secret, because they have been less exposed to the basic normality of it.

I also think that the above statements in the OP look very dated in one particular aspect especially - the apparent assumption that it is mostly only dirty pervert men who are interested in this, and who have to pay women to do it for them. And that women are rarely themselves interested in such things.

But all of us here know differently, dont we?

And thank god for that!

I'm agreeing with Steve that a larger number of people are in the closet when it comes to peeing. I've been with several guy who expressed no interest in pee until I've asked them if they want to watch me pee. So far only one made a comment like "Why?"

I disagree with the statement: "However, with people we interviewed that enjoyed this practice reported being unable to function well, or at all, without it." I can have a successful and fulfilling sexual relationship without pee. Pee is important, but not the most important part of a relationship. My present male partner is very much into pee, but we can have sex and frequently do have sex without any sort of pee related activity. Obviously they didn't interview me or my BF.

Please keep in mind that just because I posted this here does not mean in anyway that I agree with what they are saying. Just thought it was unusual how they looked at watersports lovers back in the

90's.

Maybe it needs updated. What's considered "Normal" changes over the years. People might be more open now.

I was engaged in watersports activity back in the 70's & 80's. I just think people didn't talk about it much. And then of course the internet really brought it out into the open

I must admit I've yet to encounter a woman that has asked me if I want to watch them pee...maybe one day.

That struck me too.

Whilst pee is very important to my own ability to get off, proving that such types do exist, the majority of people I discuss this with are well able to get off without it. For the majority of enthusiasts, pee play is something they enjoy, very much so in many cases. But it is relatively rarely something they need.

At least according to all those onlime with whom I have ever discussed this.

Another thing that struck me is the actual statistics provided, which do not seem to bear out the conclusions drawn. For example, the notion that it is mostly dirty pervert men who are into this and who need to pay sex worker women to do it for them. Because, according to the statistics cited, whilst 6% of men - about 1 in every 17 - have had experience with golden showers, two thirds that number of women - 4%, or about 1 in 25 - admit to having done so too. Surely they are not all prostitutes, lol?

And I found the level of ignorance in the statistics quite stupendous as well. 22% of men - more than 1 in 5 - had never even heard of golden showers! And for women, a massive 43% - not too far short of half of them - had never heard of golden showers either!

Frankly, I am amazed that this survey was carried out as recently as the 1990s. Because I find that level of ignorance truly astounding. I am absolutely certain that most people today at least know what golden showers are, even if they are not into them themselves.

Has the internet really changed things so much in so short a space of time? If so, thank holy fuck for the internet!

That was taken as read, Wetman. I never thought you agreed with all that. I knew you simply posted it as an interesting example of thinking in some quarters at some point in time. And it does seem to have triggered some interesting discussion.

Here is an interview in Cosmopolitan with a woman and two men regarding their interest in golden showers. I will post a link to it at the end. But I think the interview itself merits copying and pasting in full......

Cosmopolitan.com spoke with one anonymous woman and two anonymous men who are turned on by peeing and being peed upon.

How old were you when you engaged in urine play for the first time?

Woman A: Twenty-two or twenty-three.

Man A: Twenty-nine.

Man B: Twenty.

What kind of urine play do you engage in?

Woman A: I worked in a dungeon as a dominatrix, where urine play was very common. I urinated on my clients – they never did that to me.

Man A: During a shower together, my partner mentioned that she was in dire need to urinate. I told her to just go in the shower. She was reluctant and I convinced her to urinate on me. She then urinated on my chest and I maneuvered myself so that she sprayed on my face.

Man B: I enjoy giving and receiving, but playing with females only, either in the bathtub or outdoors in seclusion. We both drink lots of water so that our bladders are full. Whether it happens before, during, or after sex depends on how full our bladders are. I also enjoy it when my partner urinates herself as I love seeing her clothing or panties get wet.

Do you do it only with serious partners, or in casual relationships too?

Woman A: It was for work mostly, although I tried it a couple of times with my partner. We were serious.

Man A: Only the once with a very serious partner.

Man B: Only casual relationships. I've never had a serious partner who enjoyed it.

Whose idea was it to try it for the first time — yours or your partner's? What made you or them want to try it?

Woman A: It was my idea. I saw how much my clients loved it so I wanted to know if my partner would too. He didn't let me urinate on him, but he wanted to do it to me. So I let him.

Man A: It was mine. Spontaneity made me want to try and because she needed to urinate.

Man B: Mine. The urination came from her needing to go and I jokingly said I wanted to watch. She eagerly agreed and I played with her while she went. It progressed from there.

Did you enjoy it?

Woman A: It was kind of a control thing if you ask me. I enjoyed it with my partner because he liked doing it. I am a bit of a people pleaser.

Man A: I did enjoy it. It was something taboo and different and therefore a bit exciting.

Man B: Of course. It was a long-time fantasy that became a reality.

What is the psychological turn-on of urine play for you?

Woman A: Urinating on my clients made me feel I was in control. Like I was better than them. It was a big ego booster.

Man A: The taboo and newness of it all was quite exciting. I also enjoyed the submission to my partner in a way, which was also brand new to me.

Man B: I am dominant sexually and commanding someone to participate excites me. Breaking a "taboo" is also exciting but taboos are in the eye of the beholder. There are people who still believe that oral sex is taboo! I also enjoy being urinated on but it's not about being dominated. I enjoy the visual aspect of woman standing or crouching over me, her legs spread and holding her labia open as a golden stream flows.

And what is the physical turn-on?

Woman A: The change of temperature in urine is a big physical turn-on. Also, it doesn't smell like urine. To be able to engage in urine play you have to drink a lot of water. I used to drink about a gallon of water before going in with a client.

Man A: I don't think there was any physical turn-on. The turn on was purely psychological — I couldn't feel much difference between the urine and the shower on my skin.

Man B: I don't really get excited by the sensation of urine. It's more the visual aspect of the act. I also get excited seeing a picture or video of a woman urinating.

Are golden showers a regular part of your sex life now?

Woman A: Not anymore. I left that job, and I have a different partner now.

Man A: No. It's not something that I would enjoy on a regular basis, or even outside of the shower.

Man B: No. It's always difficult to find a partner that shares my desires and fantasies.

Do you have any advice for Cosmo readers curious about trying a golden shower?

Woman A: It isn't as gross as it seems. Try it in the shower. It can really bring you closer together in a relationship. I mean .... would you let just anyone urinate on you?

Man A: Use a shower — there's no mess to clean up. Drink lots of water because it makes for a stronger, better-smelling stream.

Man B: One person's taboo is another person's penchant. If it feels "ick" then it's probably not for you.

Here is an up to date study on the nature of fetish and fantasy, including golden showers. It is however somewhat flawed in ways I will describe in a moment. But first here is the article....

http://www.science20.com/news_articles/sexual_fantasies_threesomes_are_normal_golden_showers_not_so_much-148168

As you can see - based largely upon common perception as if that is any sure road to truth - it makes the claim that whilst many types of fantasies are essentially "normal" - domination and submission fantasies, for example - others, including golden showers and suchlike, are inherently abnormal.

But this study is massively flawed in two ways.

Firstly, it sets out to find over 700 men and 700 women willing to discuss their fantasies and sexual interests in detail, relying upon those willing enough to respond to a questionaire. This is highly problematical to start with, since the sample group is effectively self-selecting rather than being representative, consisting only of those open and willing enough to reveal their most intimate fantasies in questionaires. And as we all here know, those fetishes more often frowned upon by society at large are more likely to have followers in the closet and far less likely to "respond to a questionaire". So the "acceptable" fetishes will inevitably tend to be over-represented whilst others like ours - in spite of being essentially harmless - will be under-represented. Consequently, such "studies" are likely only to reinforce existing sexual prejudices.

The second major flaw is that this sample of people - in spite of being wholly self-selecting and unlikely to be representative - is nevertheless being held up to be a representative example of what society as a whole thinks, with their views on fetishes of this or that type being taken as the norm. This is then being used to declare other fetishes such as ours "abnormal" and "weird" just because this self-selecting and unrepresentative sample group tends to regard it as such.

The danger is that such flawed "studies" could be used to justify potentially repressive legislation against us.

The ladies and I did one of these questionnaires, and apart from being totally anonymous (27a, 27b and 27c) they had more interest in the 3some relationship than in the GS part. It was mentioned, when we were alone and as the group, but not much was said ...... just basically "errr, ok" and kept going back to the 3some, it just seemed that this was harder to get heads around than pee activities. That, or peeing was more common than 3 people getting into bed together. This is pretty much the reaction as per the previous post, only we think pee is weird and 3somes are normal.

We've mentioned our "problem" to our Dr, and she has indicated that apart from drinking copious amounts (I never know how much copious is, lol) it is harmless, and nothing is required to be done about it. I cant help thinking she is interested though, gets a sparkle in her eye when talking about it.

Nice thread, interesting read.
