Introduction
------------
Becoming incontinent can seem like the end of the world, a situation where normal life is impossible with the constant need to restrict liquid intake and the need to wear often bulky protection items. This is of course one way to look at it, but becoming incontinent does not have to be this way although for some it may be the preferred choice. The information presented here is applicable to all forms of urinary incontinence whether involuntary or elective.

Perception of incontinence
--------------------------
The perception of incontinence is often shaped by early life experiences of being chastised for failing to reach high standards of potty training or having small accidents resulting in a wet bed or clothes. It is important to put these negative experiences in the past and move on to what the current situation really means. It is not those in authority who are judging you now but yourself, it is for you to decide what is right or appropriate for your situation.

What is urine?
--------------
There are a lot of assumptions made about what urine is, that it is something dirty and unpleasant and to be hidden away and disposed of out of sight and out of mind. That it is very similar to perspiration is very rarely considered, and it is never considered that it can be treated in much the same way and managed similarly. Clothing is often worn which allows perspiration to soak in and evaporate without any worry. It is important to remember that urine is sterile, and therefore completely innocuous until it comes in to contact with something dirty.

Degrees of incontinence
-----------------------
Incontinence comes in many forms from the barely perceptible occasional leak, through frequent unplanned leaks, all the way to a near continuous trickle. All have different needs of management and some have advantages over others in particular situations from a management point of view. Having a continuous trickle can be easier to manage than a sudden unexpected flood for example.

Perception of urine
-------------------
Accepting that urine is little more than warm water is key to accepting that incontinence need not be a big problem. Just think about those places that you would never give a thought to a spilled glass of water and generally those places will not worry too much about a few millilitres of spilled urine either, especially if it is properly hydrated and dilute urine.

Advantages of incontinence
--------------------------
Incontinence is often looked at purely as a problem that has to be overcome at all costs, but does come with many advantages. There is often no need to visit a toilet when you go out. This in itself can be a huge benefit nowadays when toilets are often few and far between. It is not just the time you spend in the toilet that you save, there is no need to wash your hands after either, and the benefit to your skin of missing that hand wash can be a real boon. The benefits should not be ignored as increasingly many people are now choosing incontinence to take advantage of the benefits.

Is wetting yourself a problem?
------------------------------
Think about where you are likely to be when you wet yourself. We all spend a lot of time in bed, if you wet your bed is it necessarily a problem? Chances are should you find yourself peeing in bed your urine will just soak away in to the mattress, and you can just leave the covers off during the day to let your bed dry. Many people who are not incontinent find the convenience of just peeing in their beds far outweighs the inconvenience of using a toilet in the night so you really do not need to worry that this will be a problem. The mattress might become a little stained, but only you get to see it of course.

Other times you are at home it is likely that it is only you that knows you have wet yourself. If it is not a problem for you it is not a problem for anyone else.

Some clothing might be a little uncomfortable if worn wet, but careful selection of clothing will allow you to carry out all tasks even if you are a little wet.

Clothing selection
------------------
Having a permanently wet crotch area can be an issue. Women of course have it easier wearing skirts or dresses which allow free flow of air around the crotch area, underwear of course being unnecessary with such garments. Baggy shorts can offer similar levels of ventilation. If wetting is infrequent and the crotch area has time to dry then ventilation is less of an issue.

Most people tend to feel self conscious about being seen wet, and being seen wet is likely to provoke a response which is most likely unwanted whether positive or negative. To that end it is usually best to wear clothing that does not show obvious wetness even if it is very wet with urine. Generally speaking anything black will hide wetness quite well, as will garments made from Spandex, Elastane or Lycra. Leather and PVC of course being waterproof will not allow wetness to be visible externally. The only clothing that really has to be considered are shoes, hosiery (socks, stockings, tights etc.), trousers, and skirts or dresses.

Shoes
Starting at the lowest level, there are a few things to consider when selecting which shoes to wear if you are likely to wet yourself. Generally you only need to worry about your shoes if you are likely to wet yourself while standing. The main thing to consider is drainage. If urine is running down your legs it will end up in your shoes. Open shoes such as sandals or flip-flops will allow your urine to disperse and you will not find yourself trying to walk in shoes full of pee. Having a heel will help the shoes to drain towards the toes. If you tend to pee a lot each time you wet yourself you might like to consider shoes with a small platform to keep your feet out of any resulting puddle - while urine is sterile at the time of production, it does not remain sterile once puddled on the ground.

Hosiery
As with shoes socks and stockings are only something to worry about if you are likely to be standing when you wet yourself. Simple short black socks are unlikely to be noticed as being wet, but other colours may show streaks. Stockings (or tights), especially lighter colours are also likely to show streaks when wet, but stockings with a large weave such as fishnets will not show any change in colouration even when soaking wet with a continuous stream of pee running down your legs.

Trousers
Tight trousers are usually best avoided because of the lack of ventilation they offer, but black Spandex/Elastane/Lycra trousers might be an option for the infrequenet wetter where they will not show the wetness and will have time to dry between wettings. Loose shorts are often a better alternative, but will of course allow trickles to be seen running down your legs if not worn with appropriate hosiery.

Dresses, skirts, and kilts
Skirted garments provide for considerable flexibility. Long length can often be used to hide wetting while standing. Trickles down your legs can be discreetly hidden under a long skirt. For women a very short skirt may be short enough that you can lean forward when sitting and be able to wet yourself while sitting without getting your skirt wet at all. Generally a black skirt or dress is ideal because you can wet yourself while sitting and the black colour will not show the wetness, and the ventilated nature of the skirt will allow everything to dry nicely. PVC or leather skirts can be used to great benefit when you do not want to wet the seat you are sitting on when you wet yourself. Leather has a big advantage that it does not need to be washed if peed on, you just need to perform the leather care that you would normally do to keep it supple. PVC skirts are often sold as incontinence slips which can be worn under other skirts or dresses to keep seating dry.

Effect on furniture
-------------------
Beds are typically nothing to worry about because they will have at least fourteen hours to dry during the day before you will be wetting your bed again. The bed is going to be covered with sheets and a duvet or blankets so any staining will typically be hidden.

Any outside furniture is used to being rained on so will not suffer any problem with being peed on either.

Hard wooden seating of course will not suffer any ill effects, the urine will just run off on to the floor.

Any leather upholstered seating will be fine. Urine is used in the tanning process, so even if it is a little worn the urine will not harm it at all.

Soft upholstered industrial seating such as that used in trains, pubs, restaurants and cinemas is usually designed to be resilient to getting wet with spilled drink etc. and getting pee on it when you wet yourself is little different. The patterning is often such as to hide any staining so that you can just sit and wet yourself and there will be little to see when you get up to leave.

Avoiding making a puddle
------------------------

The biggest give away that you have wet yourself can be when you find yourself standing in a puddle or with a puddle under your seat. No one expects a puddle to be a puddle of pee, so after wetting yourself it can be just a simple matter to step away from the puddle to disassociate yourself from it where it will be just another spilled drink. Industrial carpet can be your friend, it might seem counter intuitive to wet yourself inside rather than outside but it can often be much easier to be discreet ducking in to a shop to wet yourself standing on industrial carpet where your pee can discreetly run down your legs and soak away invisibly in to the carpet rather than make a puddle on a hard surface outside. Just stepping off of the path on to a grassed area can also make a great place to discreetly wet yourself, and slatted benches are often conveniently positioned over grass to facilitate a discreet seated wetting.

Conclusion
----------

With more and more people now choosing urinary incontinence as a lifestyle choice it is clearly not problem that needs to be worried about. Elective incontinence can be anything from full potty un-training to reverse the potty training learned as an infant, through having a urethral stent fitted so that your pee constantly dribbles out, to just wetting yourself when it is convenient to do so.

Usually all the planning that is required is to choose suitable clothing and decide which venues are likely to be most convenient for you to be wetting yourself.

I'm still in the experimental stage atm, but it kinda works in a nice and sensual way....

My plumbing is different from yours , I guess, but I like to play with boundries
