Peeing in the sink, like peeing outdoors, is an ecologically sound practice.  Urine is relatively sterile, and rinsing out the sink uses far less water than flushing a toilet.  If you need to pee while on a long phone call, or if someone is sleeping nearby and the sound of a flush might wake them, you can pee in the sink silently.  It's also ecologically responsible if you hold your morning pee until you take your shower.
