Sex Bizarre Fifty One

 

It’s worth taking a few sentences to describe the cover of this issue from 1991. Taking centre stage a young platinum blonde is raising her leg like a dog and pissing directly into the mouth of a passive guy beneath her. The usual banner text, ‘Sex Bizarre’ boldly displayed in green followed by the words ‘A Golden French Cocktail’, justified on the right in a yellow sans serif font. At the bottom, in the same font and colour as the banner, 51. At the foot of the page in yellow ‘The World-Famous Wet Sex Magazine. Bold claims indeed, but surely justified, show me another publication that comes anywhere near it. The woman is leaning back slightly, she’s looking down, it is hard to see whether her eyes are closed or she is looking to check that her aim is true. Some of the stories in these later issues to have a ‘French’ feel to them, perhaps signified by the interior design of wood panelling and extravagant plant holders. One collector writes:

 

I was still using three adult shops in the city where I lived, it’s hard to put into words the thrill of entering the premises, a certain sexual charge driven by anticipation is the best way to describe it. The licensed shops had become more open in their display of hard-core pornography, providing there was nothing on the facade of the premises to suggest what was inside and a sign ‘Strictly Adults Only’, to banish those who were clearly underage. Oddly, I kind of liked the modesty covers back in the 1970’s, they were in bold colours and made of a different paper stock to the actual magazine. There was usually a rather crude pen and ink drawing, sometimes of a woman on a piss pot, so again the anticipation was so horny, once you got home and you could look through it page by page. (They were always wrapped in cellophane in the shop to deter browsers and lingerers!). In the 80’s and 90’s, they were brazen enough to show what was inside on the cover. But it had no lesser effect on me, I think they were about £10, maybe more, which was a lot of money back then. 

 

Issue 51 begins with a tale called ‘A Golden Trio’, a sexy lady is being plied with the best champagne poolside, we’re on the familiar setting of a Spanish resort again. She wears sexy attire, flanked by two men, pouring directly from a bottle, holding a glass below her chin to gather her drool. Pissicato Italiano is a reprise from an older issue of the magazine featuring two guys and three girls. Returning to the trusted sat around having a few drinks routine, before the girls hold their wine glasses up to be filled with urine. The final story, ‘A Nice Wet Job’, has a scenario of a chauffeur driven car driven by the Richard Gere lookalike who is also making another appearance, they may have found him a better fitting and smarter suit. He’s escorting a woman, they both end up in a house, the setting is a leafy suburb that may have been shot outside of Copenhagen, although they may have been studio bound for the interior shots. We are led to believe that the lady is quite wealthy but in need of a bit of ‘rough’, not unlike the premise of Lady Chatterley’s Lover. They fondle and fuck partially dressed, before she sees to suggest moving to the bathroom, dribbling champagne down her matching bra and suspender belt. I started visiting sex shops in Holland and Germany in the 1980s. At that time, as I remember it, 'anal' was very much a separate category, with its own reserved section on the shelves. In fact, Color Climax ran a separate magazine, titled 'Anal Sex'.  (Even cum in the mouth/on the face was segregated at that time, I think, as a separate kink or 'peversion'.) I try to imagine how someone must feel as they part the coloured strips to enter the back room of one of those second-hand book and magazine shops that seem oddly fewer in number now, perhaps because of the internet, finding a Sex Bizarre on the shelf during the naughty nineties.

 

One of the horniest issues from the 90’s, this issue, published at the start of the decade starts with a story set in a laundry room with two young women. For those that like to see females peeing in a standing position, ‘Erotic Urine Games’ has incredible examples. One of the girl’s has not entirely removed her flimsy Knicks, her friend as deemed to hold her hand in her warm stream, so that she can taste it. The friend has a large natural bosom and is dressed like a maid, gathering the washing. For those who like to see women peeing in a standing position, the  opening shots will please them. Even when the action shifts to something a little more raunchier with the addition of sex aids, the girl’s pee from an upright position. That moment of entering a sex shop was very intense. In Germany, they had heavy brown curtains across the door, which you had to part to enter. (A nod to discretion, I suppose.) The porn inside had so much presence! There was a huge contrast between outside and inside - and, of course, a huge rush of excited shame on entry. Being in a sex shop was like coming home to one's true self.

As the 90s went on, I began to see women customers in European sex/porn shops. At first, they were always with a man, but later I saw a few alone. I remember a youngish woman, shopping for a vibrator, I think. The nice thing is that I never saw one of those women being hassled. Of course they attracted attention from male customers, but it never went beyond a surreptitious glance. December 1991, the date of issue, presumably the fourth of the year. Worth noting that other ‘sister’ publications were also being published; Color Climax and Anal Sex for instance. At some point the films that were shot at the same time ceased, or were using models in features that were longer as in ‘Maximum Perversion’ and ‘Magma’ both produced in Germany. Worth taking a little time to examine the editorial and the main players since Peter Theander sold the brand to German and possibly Dutch companies. Whether these names, ‘Thomas Johnson’, responsible for the photographic content; Jens Theander still the responsible editor; Rupert James (English?) Assistant Editor and Hanne Larson the ‘model contact’. If she (Hanne Larson) was responsible for locating a beautiful model, ‘Vike’ in the first story, then she deserves an award. The photography and print remain exemplary. 

 

‘Wild Wet Dreams’ is basically a Doctor’s and Nurses game transformed into an adult world, Vika is dressed in ‘comedy’ uniform, not a believable character judging by my recent encounters with nurses. She is, to use a sexist term, ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’. There’s an episode in Season One of The Sopranos when Tony and the Boys hire a stripper from their lap dancing club to visit a colleague in hospital for some ‘comfort’, ‘Wild Wet Dreams’ is similar, but Vika is more naturally beautiful, and has natural breasts, as opposed to the stripper in The Sopranos. ‘Pissy Party’ is a return to a story already reviewed and published in Issue 32. It takes the theme of a ‘Pyjama Party’ and includes three couples wearing night wear. Yes. I think I may have mentioned before that 'anal' initially appeared on the shelves of sex shops as a separate, specialist category.
