Just as an experiment I decided to test how easy it is to find this forum on google.

I typed in "peefans" and was gratified to see that this forum was right at the top of page 1. This means that - using google - anyone who knows this forum's name can easily find it. But what about those who might be just looking for a place like this but don't know our site name?

As an experiment I typed in "pee forums". This forum did not appear until part way down on page 9, with our main rival Peesearch further down on the same page. We are therefore findable but only if someone perseveres to page 9

It’s a while now since I last worried about SEO, and that was on my own website rather than a forum like this.

Part of the issue is that Google and the other search engines are constantly evolving their algorithms, sometimes quite drastically. When I launched my website it was all the rage to list lots of related keywords often in a small block on the homepage (plumber covering Manchester, Liverpool, Wigan, Bolton, Chorley, leyland...). Then that completely fell out of favour and it all became about having good meta descriptions behind the scenes on the page, good loading speeds and general appeal.

From a quick browse today - and I’m a bit out of touch - it’s difficult to see how to apply current SEO recommendations to a forum. Apparently google isn’t over keen on sign-in sites, and also it’s more about sites which pre-empt the user’s questions. So rather than a site describing its product range, a site that describes what the user needs will do better.  Difficult to see what a forum like ours could do.

Given the way Pornhub and their affiliates are treating pee, maybe we’re lucky the search engines list us at all?
