Popular Post Blackinksoul30 1,246
As some of you know I have a lung issue. Years ago i was getting testing done at a clinic for my lungs, and they wanted to check my kidney function so they had me do a 24 hour 'urine collection'. Basically you have to pee into a container and then take it to the hospital the next day. One major thing has changed over the years in regards to this test. I took this test in 2003 or 2004. I was living with my family at the time so the whole idea of peeing into a container then putting it in the fridge so beyond awkward and strange. The act of peeing into a container itself was fine. I had been peeing into cups for fun by myself for years. But see... the major difference with this test back then and the test now... is now a days they give you a large orange jug to pee into, so you store the urine in that. It's not see through, so no one can really tell what it is, unless they really looked at the fine print on the label. Back in the day, the instructions were... you had to use a washed, sanitized juice container or water bottle.... and almost all of those are see through. Yea.. so that was part one of my extreme awkwardness of this test.... So i had to store my pee in clear bottles in the fridge that my whole family used. So then when the test was done the next day i was looking forward to dropping off the bottles and just being done with it... So i entered the hospital and went over to their 'drop off counter' it was kind of like this check in/receptionist desk which was in the lobby. Picture a big train station with a huge open lobby with people walking around. it was kind of the connecting 'hub' room that led to different parts of the hospital. So the drop off area was not a separate room, it wasn't a private room. It was out in the middle of this busy lobby as people waited for their appointments. No tinted/frosted glass above the check in counter. It was all open. Here i am carrying a big brown paper bag with one full water bottle and two smaller juice bottles. and i put the bag on the counter. I was praying that i could just you know... say 'Here's the collection' and then walk away... Nope... The receptionist proceeds to put on rubber gloves and tells me i had to take the bottles out of the bag and put them on the counter. Why.. i don't know. I was standing right next to my father. And i kept thinking, 'please don't make me do this. take the bag to a back room or something!' So completely mortified i had to take the bottles of my urine out of the bag and place them right on top of the counter in this huge room that had people just standing or sitting to wait for their appointments. So anyone entering the hospital had to walk by that 'check in' counter to get to their appointments. So i had to stand there and wait while the receptionist put labels on the bottles. I really wanted to cry. It was so humiliating. Nothing about the test drop off was discrete. 5 Link to post

I have been in the same situation, many years ago (except nothing to do with my lungs). As said, that happened a long time ago, I (luckily) almost was forgot it already. I was living with my mother, sister and brother. And doctor wanted to know something about my kidneys and ordered me to collect urine for 24 hours and store that in fridge, so I know your awkwardness. I got that jug from hospital and it was semi-transparent. Not 100% clear, but easily to see what was inside. And my family of course knew it also. I took a couple sheets of thick paper and roll of a tape and I made some kind of "paper cover" around that jug, it helped a little. 1 Link to post

It's something your body produced, and is to be analyzed, stand proud with a "So what?!" attitude whenever you feel like that, it could help you sooooo much!!! I had the same experience when deploying a poo-sample for the screening of hidden-in-faeces-blood and I was there with this "turd in a jar" while talking to people ahahahahaha Hospital is a strange place, where all are used to see ill, unpolished naked bodies, shit and puke and blood on the floor, you hold buckets while actually people defecate in them and then you clean their butt, all day everyday They have a different sensibilty and moral than normal people, and indeed that's why the usually have more sex than normal people, as they are Wilder But you ave nothing to be ashamed of!!!! A huge hug and a kiss!!! 4 Link to post
Bacardi 10,134
I had complications after my child was born and had to do that whole store your pee in cups and keep it in the fridge thing. I made sure to move all the food to one side of the fridge and keep the bottles (yes, bottles. Had five of them for my first morning urine 😥) at the other side. My husband laughed and tried to tell me it was alright, but I felt so awful keeping my urine in the same fridge i kept my breastmilk for the day 😫😫😫😫 1 Link to post
