It's mostly due to how hydrated you are. First pee in the morning is going to be very strong and yellow and will likely smell. Peeing after drinking sufficient water (or other liquids) should leave no detectable smell.

I once had to pee so badly while driving that I pulled into a busy gas station, pulled up to a pump as if I was going to fill gas, opened the car door, pulled out my cock, rolled to the side somewhat and peed onto the ground right outside the door. If you shower together just pee nonchalantly in the shower - most everybody pees in the shower so it's easy to explain away if necessary. Any public pool has dozens of people peeing in it. When a pool smells like chlorine it's because it's been peed in - a chlorinated pool doesn't smell like chlorine at all unless it's peed in, because it's the chemical reaction with urine that creates the odor.
