greedyneedygirl 4,156
I'd like to discuss the state of some of our public conveniences here in the UK, but would welcome any comments from other countries. When we were kids we used to play in a local park that had a small concrete block that was a toilet with Ladies to the left and Gents to the right. One day my friend was bursting, and she was a bit nervous, and asked me to wait outside. After doing what she needed to she came out somewhat flustered, and said, "Oh my god, you should go in and see what someone has done," We both went inside, and I could see nothing of any consequence, until Sandra opened the cubicle door. I remember the smell, like being on a beach with dry seaweed. Then Sandra pointed to the back of the door, and someone had spent a great deal of time and effort to draw a huge erect penis, with a phone number beneath it. It looked very realistic, not crude or cartoon like. I shall never forget that, because who ever did it was clearly a very clever artist and had time on his/her hands to execute the work of art. I have to say that toilet graffiti seems to have been eradicated, but that's not to say that other aspects of hygiene and cleanliness in public toilets have not gone unnoticed. Link to post
Guest UnabashedUser
So are you saying that as a child an artistic depiction of a dick has remained burned into your memory and you're commenting on the lack of the same level of art in today's graffiti? Stateside we seldom see much art on bathroom walls, mostly scribbled sharpie notes of phone numbers. Link to post
Adyguy6970 877
I can well imagine how such an image could impress itself upon a youthful memory. With regard to the condition of public conveniences here in the UK, all I can say that it varies a great deal. I've come across some which, quite frankly, have been appalling and would only wish to use in extremis. At the other end I've come across others which are beautifully clean and well maintained - which I would have absolutely no hesitation about using. Most public toilets fall somewhere in the middle between the terrible and the excellent. They're "alright" in the sense of being satisfactory but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to use them if holding it - whichever number in needed to do - was an option. They are generalisations but a couple of things tend to be rule of thumb. Firstly, toilets which are manned full time by an attendant (such toilets usually make a small admission charge) are generally better than the free, unmanned ones. Secondly, toilets attached to pubs and railway stations tend to be somewhat better than those which are simply provided by the local council as public conveniences. Although they are provided as a matter of grace rather than of right (and therefore an easy target when budget cuts have to be made) I wouldn't wish to see the complete demise of council run public toilets. They're a necessity for elderly people, families with young children, the disabled and people (like me) who don't have particularly strong bladders. I wouldn't want the UK to go the way of America with few, if any, genuinely public public toilets available, and people forced to rely on the goodwill of shopkeepers and other businesses when nature calls. 1 Link to post

Stateside we seldom see much art on bathroom walls, mostly scribbled sharpie notes of phone numbers. I can point to many such experiences, this was just one. I do like 'drawing', or more specifically erotic art. I also found a sketchbook of my older brother's, who had squirrelled it away with his 'porn' stash, seemed he liked to carry out his fantasies through drawing them. 1 Link to post
