This is a topic that's discussed here fairly regularly. I've commented on it several times in the recent past. 

Generally speaking, it is safe. But every woman is different, and results can vary. 

I have been doing this with my wife fairly regularly for about two years, and she has had no ill effects. We've done everything from a little squirt here and there to a full bladder release.

She has not had any problems with UTIs or vaginal infections as a result. The only complaint she has had is that she doesn't really enjoy the "full" feeling of when her vagina fills like a water balloon. But other women might like that feeling.

Being that I am a man, and have no training or particular qualifications to comment on women's bodies and health practices, I am in no position to comment on that.

As for my own experience, after we are finished, my wife pees, and I would assume that most of my pee trickles/drips out as she's sitting there on the toilet. She doesn't shower afterward, we just go to bed.

Thank you for your feedback. I only do this play when in good physical health, never when either of us are sick we are sick. Certainly not during any bladder infection. Another good practice is it would be good to check both of our bodies to make sure neither of us has any open wounds before doing this play. I haven't been doing this yet, but that would probably be a good extra measure. Another extra good measure is my pee is always clear because I am always hydrated.
