If you don't mind me asking, out of curiosity, did she not have any place nearby where she could have gone or did she think she could wait longer than she finally could?

Because I have sometimes seen on a weekend night after the bars have closed how someone has queued for a taxi but then left the queue and disappeared into a nearby wooded area among the trees. It's not hard to guess why.
