Anyone else remember this site from WAAAY back in the day?

Recommended Posts

I'll start with a TL;DR in case anyone does remember, but doesn't want to take the time to read this whole post: Does anyone remember a really old, primitive forum dedicated to sharing found sexy pictures from elsewhere on the web, where peeing pictures were nicknamed "Kuffours"?

I was listening to a podcast where someone was talking about some terms that originated on Usenet back when it was popular. There are lots of them--I believe that "TL;DR" itself is one, and things such as RTFM, the whole "Leet/1337" thing, etc. It got me thinking about when I used to occasionally go on Usenet, back in the second half of the 2000s. It was already declining then but that's when I found it, so I wasn't on there long.

But in my process of reminiscing about that, a picture of a very old forum I also visited around that time popped into my head. Recently some people here were talking about Peesearch--well I found this even years before I found Peesearch. I don't think it WAS on Usenet, but it was LIKE Usenet in that it harkened back to the earlier, more text-based phase of the internet. While the Web 2.0 phenomenon was just starting, I'd maybe been on Facebook for a year or two, and most forums were already more or less like this one in layout, THIS particular one that I remembered today was one of those oldie goldies where a "thread" was a series of progressively more indented blocks of text that you had to scroll past to get to the next one, rather than a link to its own page. Sort of like a comment thread on Facebook, but much more graphically primitive than that.

The purpose of this forum was exclusively to share links to pictures posted by ordinary users on other sites, i.e. the primitive "social media" of its day. While the pictures were all "naughty" in some way, it wasn't in any way a "porn site"--neither the forum itself nor its users hosted/distributed any content at all, and even the sites on which the linked pictures were found weren't adult-oriented (this was in fact one of the best things about this site in my opinion--if it weren't for this I wouldn't have seen reason to browse that forum). And it wasn't pee-related as a whole--most of the pictures were things like nip slips, loose fitting tops that revealed a bit too much, etc. Often the forum users were in a race against time to share the content before it was taken down from whatever site it was on, either by the actual poster of the photo or by the site management for a rules violation--sort of like the Street View thread that currently exists on here. But once in a while someone would post a link to a picture someone took of a friend peeing, a peeing selfie, etc. The first person to regularly do this on this forum had the username "Kuffour", so in "honor" of him, others linking pee pictures would often say "I just found some Kuffours", which is the most distinguishing thing about the site that I clearly remember.

I couldn't remember the name of the forum at the time, but about an hour later, the name "Webshots Most Wanted" popped into my head. So it's possible that was the name of it. Anyway, I wonder if anyone else on here remembered it. As I implied above, it was very active in maybe the 2004-2007 time frame. Then I found other forums and never went back, so I don't know how long it lasted.

Yeah, I remember WMW.

As far as I can recall „kuffs“ were not called that in honor of Kuffour, but rather because he was often the first to complain about those kinds of shots. First, people would mark them, so he didn’t have to look at them and then get upset. Later it turned into a bit of a tease.

After webshots, Flickr came into being, which still exists, and then rajce, which has been a bit slow these past few years as their userbase grows old as we do and people settle down a bit, and then there is VSCO which has some nice photos, but is absolutely terrible to navigate, but there is no good photoboard any more. There are the boards on AVF, but they have mostly degenerated into people posting professional photosets and then getting crazy excited when a paid model shows a nipple, or 1000 year old reposts by users trying to cash in on ads in their posts.

I wonder where all the good people from back in the good old days before the enshitification of the internet went?

It's amazing that I was able to remember the name of that forum, even though it took a few hours from when I remembered its existence, and the word "kuffour", until the forum name came to my mind.

I've never heard of rajce, only VSCO, Instagram, TikTok, Kik, etc. And of course Facebook, though their rules are quite tight and so there's hardly anything "good" posted there. And what is AVF?

I would put Flickr into a different category than all those other sites, as it caters more to "serious" artistic shots, not selfies and the like. I follow over 2000 accounts on there, nearly all for their nature/travel photography, only a few because they have pictures of cute girls in them. I used to have a decent number of followers (several hundred) when I posted my own photos, again nature shots, before they limited free accounts to 1000 photos and I had to take most of them down. Yes, it's plenty possible to find accounts of, or featuring, cute/pretty (or handsome) people if that's what you're into, and by looking through the favorites of people who faved hot/"interesting" pictures often leads you to being able to find lots more. But as a fraction of total content on there it's quite minimal.

I like that word "enshitification". I think it started when a few big companies started buying up all the smaller content hosting sites. There are still plenty of good sites on the internet (for general content I'm now talking--not directed at the masses or overmonetized), just there aren't too many sites that attract huge crowds of people that are in that "wild west zone" of kind of looking the other way about what gets posted there.
