It turned out that they both had a lot in common, both of them had been in swimming clubs when they were younger and were both huge fans of superhero movies. The big difference between them was that most people in Amy's family were smokers, including her parents, whereas Sarah's weren't. As Sarah and Amy got to know each other better, they started hanging out at break times and during lunch. It didn't take long before Sarah realised that Amy was a smoker. Amy asked Sarah what she thought of her first cigarette. Sarah replied that she didn't hate the taste of the smoke but couldn't understand why people would become smokers. Amy said,"  don't worry, once you get used to inhaling it, then you'll understand". 

The next day at break time, Amy asked Sarah if she wanted to try another. Sarah said, "yes, but this time I want to try inhaling". Amy passed Sarah a cigarette, and her lighter and Sarah proceeded to light it. Amy told her not to inhale the first puff but to blow it out and then take a small second puff and try inhaling that. Sarah did as she was told blowing out the first puff and then inhaling the second. As soon as the smoke hit her lungs, the inevitable happened, and she began coughing. "Are you okay?" Amy asked as she was lighting her own cigarette. "That was horrible" Sarah replied once she finished coughing. "Don't worry?" Amy said, "just give it a minute and try again, it gets easier". Sarah waited a while and then tried again. This time she was more prepared for what to expect, and when the smoke hit her lungs for the second time, she was able to control the urge to cough. Sarah was able to smoke the rest of the cigarette and found inhaling getting more comfortable with each drag, but noticed that she was getting light-headed and starting to feel a bit sick. 'Does it always make you feel like this?" Sarah asked, "no when you get used to it, the sickness goes away, and so does the woozy feeling."

On the third day, Amy again offered Sarah a cigarette, and this time she found that although she still got light-headed, she didn't feel nearly as sick. And so it continued, each day for the next two weeks Sarah would get a cigarette from Amy during their break, and they would smoke together. Sarah realised that she should probably buy her own pack rather than continually taking them from Amy so when they were on their lunch break, Amy took Sarah to a local corner shop where the store owner would sell cigarettes without asking any too many questions. Sarah brought a lighter, a pack for herself and a pack for Amy to replace the ones she'd been taking at break times, and then the two headed back to college, and Sarah smoked her first cigarette from her own pack. Of course, buying her own pack meant that Sarah had now crossed the line of no return. That day after finishing college, Sarah passed another milestone. As she was walking home, she decided to try another of her cigarettes. This would be the first time that she smoked solo. She took a cigarette and the bright pink lighter that she had purchased out from her bag and lit up. She was really starting to enjoy smoking now even though she still had no idea what it felt like to 'need' to smoke. Later that evening she again smoked a cigarette when she was walking to her part-time job at the sports centre and another still on the walk home. It was after about a week of this that Sarah started to notice that something had changed. She was beginning to 'clock watch' more when at college or work waiting for the moment when she could go outside for a cigarette. She was starting to notice the effects of addiction. This started to become a problem at weekends when she had fewer opportunities to smoke without her parents noticing. She was trying to come up with excuses to nip out for a cigarette without giving the game away, and she was completely unaware of the extent to which the smell of smoke lingered on her clothes and in her hair. When her mother confronted her about this one day, she tried to pass it off by saying some of her friends had started smoking around her. But this coupled with the fact that Sarah was continually having to 'pop out' meant her mother wasn't buying any of it. This led to a fierce argument that ended with Sarah admitting that she had indeed started smoking and saying that she had no intention of quitting. Sarah pointed out that she was grown up now and could make her own decisions. Also, she had her own personal income so she could buy her own cigarettes without having to take money from her parents. As much as her parents were unhappy with her decision, they realised that there was really nothing they could do about it. Sarah was earning her own money, so she could get cigarettes easily. She needed to pee again but couldn't be bothered to walk across the hall to the bathroom and didn't want to risk waking her parents. She picked her underwear off the floor and placed it in the washing hamper in the corner of her room. Nice story with some good peeing situations and plenty of detail.    I like that Sarah peed in the pub garden whilst Amy went inside.  I wonder what Amy would have thought if Sarah had peed whilst she was there?
