Popular Post Kupar 13,339
I had a sudden recollection today of an occasion this summer that made me think somewhat differently about a very long-time friend. I have known S since we were in the sixth form together; our birthdays are a few days apart. When I first met her she was a typical good-time girl – and attractive and funny. She’d been at a Catholic all-girls’ school until the age of 16 and going to a co-ed sixth form college was like all her dreams come true. At parties she would drink neat gin, get giggly then disappear with one or other of the boys for a while… Of course, she wasn’t alone in being like this, but somehow she was better than the others. Having come to sixth form from an all-boys grammar school after moving from Yorkshire to the Thames Valley, and knowing no-one and being pretty shy – I considered her out of my league, and although we had the same circle of friends we never got it together. She was arty, and bright – but when she achieved outstanding A-level results and went to study landscape architecture for 6 years, most of us were surprised: we did not see that coming. We lost touch after that for several years – going our own ways to university and into work. But as for so many people my age, the first wave of social media meant many old friendships were rekindled, and so it was me for S and me. She lives within easy reach for day visits, and as her children are roughly the same age as ours, we’ve met up from time to time for the last ten years or so – the last time this summer, in a socially distanced way at a big country park about half way between our homes. We rendezvous’d in the car park – S on her own, and me with K (my wife). And the first thing S said to us when we met was “I need a wee, but I don’t want to go in the toilets here, so I’m going to have a ‘wild wee’ over there”, pointing to a corner of the car park. What I said: “OK – we’ll wait for you here.” What I was thinking: “Can I come with you?” So to add to the many attractive qualities she already has (beautiful green come-to-bed eyes, wicked sense of humour, ability to write as well with her left hand as with her right, outstanding drawing ability, kindness and patience) I now need to add “happy to wee in public and talk about it”. What a woman! I may need to fantasize a bit and see where the story takes me. What do you think? Edited November 24, 2020 by Kupar typo 8 2 3 Link to post
