  1. Here is a topic for debate. Should prostitution be legal?

Personally I think it should be for consenting adults. If people want to have sex together and are choosing to do so of their own free will, whether it be for love, lust or money, how is it anybody else's business but theirs?

Besides which, it is not often called "the oldest profession" for nothing. People - mostly but not exclusively women - have been selling sexual favours since the dawn of humanity, and the law has never managed to stop it. All it does is drive it into the illicit backstreets where pimps and psychos prey, and where the women involved are denied all effective legal protections.

Better to legalise it, tax it, provide safe environments for the women, and be able to have more control over where it is allowed to happen - away from residential areas preferably.

Of course, many are driven to prostitution out of financial desperation or drug or alcohol addiction, and we should as a compassionate society be doing all we can to help these out of their predicament rather than exploiting them. But that cause too is only made more difficult by criminalisation.

Of course, none of us would ever want to see our own sisters or daughters working as prostitutes, but the plain fact is that criminalisation wouldn't stop them if for whatever reason they went down that route. It would just make it more dangerous for them by placing them effectively outside the protection of the law, whilst making it harder for us to reach out to find them to try and help them.

So on balance, I say that prostitution between consenting adults should be legalised.

    What does anyone else think?

I agree with your idea that if it is something occurring between consenting adults, it should be their business and no-one else's.

However, it seems to me that if you establish grounds whereby the act of paying for a receiving sex is legal, you also throw up a few complications. For example, if I go to a shop and buy a product and am dissatisfied with the service I receive for my money, I may be entitled to an exchange/refund. Would this sort of thing apply to prostitution, or would it be advertised in a sort of "sold as seen" format, as per ads on gumtree, craigslist, etc?

I appreciate that the above is quite a heartless and mercenary statement, but it is one that I am raising purely to generate discussion. I've never personally been able to get into the mindset of paying for sex, so whether prostitution is legal or not honestly doesn't bother me at all. It's an interesting topic to think about though.

  2. I am well aware of how to disable these "features" but even so, I still do not believe they should be the default. I trust Microsoft about as much as I trust the government. In other words, not at all, not in any way, shape or form.

I agree, making those the default is pretty poor form, but then it's no different to installations that have browser add-ons auto-enabled by default. Just highlights the need to be careful when installing anything, I suppose.

  3. One of the worst things I have heard is the lack of privacy and the collection of private information by win 10, and the difficulty of changing all the settings needed to protect yourself. I have mostly windows XP still, I have one laptop that has 8.1 (which I hate and despise, and will be changing to Win 7 as soon as I am sure that 10 is as bad as I think.

I was traveling for work when my 10 year old laptop died, and I was forced to buy a cheap replacement late that night. The only options I had were an 8.1 machine, or a Chromebook. If I had not needed to complete a report that evening (work required) I never would have purchased that laptop.

You can disable these things during the installation, as long as you go for the custom option, as opposed to letting the default settings apply. There are also guides available online that tell you how to remove these things (i.e. giving facebook friends your wifi password, allowing microsoft to use your bandwidth for downloads, etc).

  4. Lol, I know 8.1 is nuts, suspend to ram or something, this is an I7 - 3770k, 10 hd's, 16gig of ram, 3 monitors.

I've used the sleep mode on Win10 and it's pretty much instant, quicker than the ipad, but the thing is still on, being noisy.

I'm kinda nervous about upgrading now. Haven't heard amazing things about some of the hidden features in W10 either...

  5. Ok, managed a clean install onto an SSD, now have this booting up in 45 seconds, getting to like this.

    45 seconds?!

What sort of system are you running? My boot time on Win 8 is about 15 seconds...

  6. I've heard that W10 brings back some of the functionality of Win7, but retains the advances made in Win8. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the tablet interface design of 8, which is why I'm going to give 10 a go. I haven't had the notification to say I can upgrade yet, but I'll be doing so as soon as I can.

  7. I've only ever told 3 people. The first was the girlfriend I had at the time. She initially thought I was kidding, then thought it was a little odd, but over time she indulged me a handful of times. She could never understand it, and it made her uncomfortable and caused a few arguments between us. Overall, I think I made the correct decision in telling her.

The second was a girl I dated briefly. Right from the start, I could tell she had an open mind sexually and was far more open to exploring things. I told her, she took it well, and told me that it didn't turn her on, but turned her on to turn me on, and was happy to do it. The relationship fizzled out amicably, but she gave me confidence that telling your partner can be a very liberating thing.

The third is one of my exes. Again, very open minded, she told me a few things about her, so I reciprocated. She accepts it fully (as a friend, nothing more), asked a few questions, completely non-judgemental.

So overall, I've had mostly positive experiences from sharing my interests, but it still makes me nervous to do so.

  8. Hey, I was wondering where you'd got to! Welcome back to the site. :)

From our perspective, it's a huge shame that you're so busy as you were such a great contributor to the forum. It'd be great if when you do have a little spare time you drop by, even if just to say hi again. I hope everything is going well for you, and hopefully it won't be another year before we speak again!

Well thanks! I'll do my best...It appears you've been getting on just fine without me, however...

  9. Just thought I'd bump this to say hello again. I haven't been around here for the past year or so. Work and life have pretty much taken over most of my time these days, and I don't get a lot of time for this side of things any more.

  10. I like quite a few of the comedians you referred to. I hadn't seen the videos either, but I enjoyed watching them. I used to be a big fan of Michael McIntyre, but it seems my humor has grown much darker in recent times, as I'm now much more into the likes of Frankie Boyle (very funny, but certainly not to everyone's taste).

Like you said, Bill Bailey is good for combining comedy and music. Tim Minchin seems to do this too. I also used to listen to Weird Al Yankovic parodies... anyone heard of him? :p

I'll have a think if I can think of any lesser known comedians I like to share with you guys, but in the meantime I look forward to hearing which comedians are already popular among members here? As LetsGetQuizzical did, please post any videos of the comedians here too!

Yeah, I could never really get into Michael McIntyre, it's all just a bit too cutesy and tongue-in-cheek for me. I prefer darker comedy too. Frankie Boyle is definitely good for a laugh, but I'm not sure I'd watch a whole show.

    Huge Tim Minchin fan though.

  11. Now that's both crazy and some what dangerous . Had you gotten plastic fragments embedded in you . Especially in your privates , OUCH :frown:

Though an interesting way to get a Golden Shower too

My crazy idea and experiment on myself a couple of times in my past . Was when I took a empty Prell shampoo bottle . Cleaned it out very well . To make sure the botte was completely cleaned of shampoo in it . Then filling it with clear clean warm tap water to the top . Then inserted the open into my pee hole . Then expelled all the water in it down through my urethra into my bladder . In filling my bladder to it's fullest point . This took several bottle fulls of water to completely fill my bladder to the point of almost losing control ! Then just let it all flow ! !

The pee came streaming out of me in a forceful gush :O_o:

Spraying a fountain up into the air

Plus giving me an hard on that I had then had to take care of . As soon as I finished peeing

Just be careful that you use a very clean squeeze bottle to do this . Because you could get an U.T.I , if not being careful at using unsterile items in trying this on yourself for fun and a arousing thrill ! !

Just a note concerning the bottle you used - you do realise that washing it out with warm water doesn't sterilise it, right?

  12. I'll begin with this.

You have a body - you are not the body.

You have a mind - you are not your mind.

You have emotions - you are not your emotions.

You are Consciousness accessing the physical realm in a physical body.

Watched a presentation the other day and the dude said you don't even own your body - what happens when you 'die' - you leave your body behind!

Finally - where do thoughts come from?

Well alright. I guess we have a body. We probably wouldn't define ourselves as "the body". If you want to think of it that way, we're more of a conscience inhabiting a body. Seems odd to think of it that way.

Kind of an odd choice of phrasing - I could make the argument using your logic here that I have a cup, but I am not the cup. Well, no shit!

In theory, our body is constantly changing. Cells die and are replaced by new living cells, so theoretically we are a different person today than we were yesterday. That isn't some higher thinking or some existential crap though, that's just science. Pure, wonderful science.

Thoughts come from our brain. We have an incredibly complex organ up there which generates all sorts of weird and wonderful thoughts, emotions, feelings, desires...

Come on people  Surely I'm not the only deep thinker here!

Where did we (ALL) come from ?

    WHERE ?

What was there prior to the physical realm ?

    WHAT/Who created ALL this ?

I don't beLIEve in the religious concept of g_d. Anything religion offers I avoid!

    However, their must be 'something'.

    As the Tao says:-

The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao

The name that can be named is not the eternal name

I take the scientific approach - we evolved. Big bang > present day and all the weird and wonderful things in between. I have no idea what you mean when you refer to the "physical realm", so I don't know what was there before it.

There is no "who". Science created it, I guess. The universe. The cosmos. Whatever. I share your lack of religious belief in terms of there being some higher power/deity that created our earth and everything on it. I wouldn't go so far as to say "anything religion offers, I avoid", however. I think that some aspects of some religions could be highly beneficial. The idea of living peacefully, treating others as you would have them treat you, etc. Granted, you don't need religion to have morals like this, but I am replying to your idea of religious avoidance.

I have no real knowledge or experience of Taoism, so commenting on your last point is difficult for me. Given that the Tao is apparently not a "thing", but rather the "order of the universe" (apparently), I'm not sure how it relates to your desire to look for "something" (in absence of religion). Also odd, as Taoism apparently has a number of interpretations, including several engrained in religion...

Not sure what you were after as a response, but if it was a form of discussion, I hope I have contributed something of value.

  13. Hopefully this hasn't been started elsewhere.

I'm a fan of a few comedians. Bill Bailey, Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard, Bo Burnham...I'm always on the lookout for someone new and interesting to watch, so perhaps this thread can be a place to share things we find funny from a comedy point of view. Stand-up, music, etc.

    I'll start.

  14. Meh. I can sort of relate. A while ago I found myself whiling away the time reading about mass-murderers. As in people who grab a gun and go GTA in a suburb or city until they're killed. I have no desire to emulate them, nor do I think what they do is anything other than utterly horrific. It's still interesting to read about the background of such a person to try to understand what might have provoked them into such a grave action.

On a lighter note, I could murder a bowl of cornflakes.

    Sorry.

  15. Oh, I'm disappointed not to find 27 of you. Oh well. Welcome to the site :) I'm a little confused as to which of you is writing this though to be honest, you refer to your husband and your female ex at the same time...

  16. Ugh. That's a pretty shit thing to do to someone. Funny for them at the time I'd imagine, but still pretty thoughtless as far as how it would impact you goes. At least you can look back on it now in a positive light though, which is great :)

Mine by comparison is pretty tame, because I'm not sure whether I was actually caught here or not. I was peeing in some bushes (out and about, caught short) in a park near where I worked at the time, when I caught some movement in my peripheral vision to one side. I quickly zipped up and walked off in the opposite direction, but I have no idea whether the person saw me or not, and if so, how much they saw

Kind of embarrassing to think about, but I got a bit of a rush out of it.
