PeeFans is not secure and not private

Recommended Posts

I noticed that the PeeFans site does not use HTTPS (secure connection technology) that is used on almost every site in the world these days to protect users' traffic from snooping.

Even when logging in, the connection is not secured. Which means anybody intercepting my traffic can get my username and password. Anybody sitting in a coffee shop or on my local network watching my traffic can see what I'm doing here.  And not just my local network. Any node on the Internet that happens to handle the packets flowing from my computer to PeeFans can see into them and see what I'm doing on this site. That includes my ISP and any government authorities. I have absolutely no privacy on this website.

Every other site I use, especially banking and other porn sites, use HTTPS to secure and encrypt their connections.

Users have no privacy on PeeFans. What gives?

HTTPS is now forced on all pages of PeeFans, so you should see the SSL certificate now and get the 'secure' padlock.

Of course banks and paid porn sites would have brought this in a lot sooner as they're dealing with credit card information and much more personal data than made-up usernames and hashed passwords. PeeFans did have plenty of security and privacy features in place before too though (including HTTPS, but as it wasn't forced you wouldn't have got the official green padlock).  🙂

Thank you for turning on HTTPS!

My biggest concern regarding privacy was my ISP recording and selling to third parties the stuff I do on this site, which should be private. My ISP knows my IP address, home address, name, date or birth, social security number, etc, and handles all the network traffic into and out of my house. I don't want any of that tied to my identity on this site. With HTTPS on, my ISP cannot know anything I do on this site or who I am on this site. Because of Trump's administration, ISPs are no longer prevented by law from spying on their users for profit.

So thank you for listening and doing the right thing!
