I suspect the group of guys there on that Amsterdam clip may all know each already - Amsterdam is famous as an 'adult' citybreak, so entirely possible they were a group of mates on a stag weekend or just a guys trip to the red light district.

It doesn't detract though from the fact that they were all pissing in broad daylight in public, without being challenged or arrested.  And that of course is the point.

From my part of Europe (and I still see the UK as that) we are perhaps halfway between that and the American reservedness.  As Beachmom has touched on, there are factors which will encourage the open peeing.  Alcohol being the main one.  Walking into a public toilet in say a train station, you wouldn't expect to hear a single word except perhaps an excuse me. But take that into a context where everyone has something they can relate to in common and it changes a little.  So suppose every train was cancelled due to weather, or at a football match or the toilets in a pub, then random strangers (in the north of the country at least) will start to interact.  Add alcohol to the equation and definitely so.

As far as the other part - the open public peeing - well, that does seem to still be rare in sober daylight hours, but into the hours of darkness and where alcohol has been consumed then of course the world is your toilet for many (and no complaints about that).

I've also noticed the tendency of people to head straight into cubicles rather than use a urinal - I fear it's more likely an effect of body shaming rather than some sort of fear of sexual assault?  A shyness over getting it out amongst other people or at least pee-shyness around others. There's lots publicised about the effects of advertising and peer pressure over body shaming, but generally all considered to affect only females.  Maybe it's time to get guys talking about it?

Amsterdam is rather an adult weekend party town and I would expect that many of these guys were from out of town and here together for a weekend. As these tourists are the life of the city, I imagine the locals tolerate a great deal of things from guests. I know that men urinating against limestone and marble buildings is doing a great deal of damage to them and thus they've be moving to stop that, but as I say, the canals and storm drains aren't an issue to the buildings nor do they create a fowl odor, so I doubt anyone would care about guys peeing there, as nudity isn't an issue there.

As for growing up at home, we often shared one outhouse or indoor toilet with 3 or more other families, so as you might imagine mornings and evenings were busy. Women would actually get mad at a guy standing in line, so men commonly peed behind or alongside the outhouses at home or in public. It was also common for drivers or those waiting for buses to pee between cars or along the curb into the streets. Back home the guys weren't usually in groups, nor quite this open, but they were very casual about doing so and weren't concerned about who was around as every guy did so at some point.

Yes. This was filmed during Queensday (nowadays Kingsday) where the city is crowded with people , most of them drunk. There are not enough public toilets so guys just pee in the canals. On normal days this does not happen a lot and you can get fined too. There are urinals which is nothing more than a steel cylinder. I've been trying to get into the habit of going for a walk 3 or 4 times a week as I really need to get a bit fitter.  This morning it was throwing it down with rain but not super cold (8c) and if you don't walk in the rain in Wales you won't go out much! 😀.  I decided for a change to just wear a single layer of loose waterproofs with nothing at all underneath which felt nice and comfy once I got walking and a little naughty, especially when I stopped to talk to someone I know 😁. Just back from a very breezy walk, this time I made sure I was well topped up before going out. By the time I approached this bridge the need to pee was urgent and the pee was just starting to leak out, it didn't look as if anyone was coming in either direction so I stopped there and relaxed letting it flood out into my waterproof leggings. The relief felt amazing and the warm sensation down my leg was lovely, then a dog walker appeared not far away so I started walking away while I was still peeing 😃.  I walked back to get a pic of the puddle and trail after she'd gone past.
