Backing up your porn folder

Wondering what everyone's approach to backing up your porn folder is. I need to make backups but I'm paranoid about putting it on drives laying around in case someone else finds it. How do you encrypt folders on external drives?

Use Trucrypt. You just have to create a Trucrypt drive in a file with an arbitrary name. No one will have any idea that it is your Trucrypt drive because only you know the passcode to mount it - it will just appear to be a random file that does not work. When you want to use it you just mount it as an extra drive, and unmount it when you have finished.

Use a file type that is usually a big file (with a .mp4 suffix for example) so that it will not draw any attention.

If someone is very keen they might be able to identify that a file is a Trucrypt drive, but it will take someone with the resources of GCHQ to open it!

Im fascinated that you guys have a porn folder which has back ups and needs to be hidden. 

The closest thing i have is the backup of all my personal files where i still have m favorite hentai pictures saved from back when i was in school. 

If i save porn i just bookmark the link. 

But back on topic: I use google drive and random hard drives for my backup purposes. Google drive is quite affordable and easy to use if you don't need more than 100 GB.

If i would need to hide my porn i would probably just create a separate googlemail and sync all my links and files to that google account. That way you could access your porn from anywhere while keeping your main profile clean. 

On a side note: is porn really something you still need to hide ? In my social circle its assumed that everyone watches porn regardless of age and gender. And you usually don't care about the other peoples porn. I mean you don't search for your friends sexy underwear when you are visiting them. Why would you search their browser history for porn?

I still live with my conservative family and I am 100 percent the only person who watches porn in the house. So any discovery of my porn folder would be a disaster.

I must admit I don't have a backup, although it would be easy enough to do and I should do.

What I have is a solid state drive, uncased, so it looks like a bare computer component.  That's interfaced to my computer with a USB/SATA adapter so it appears as a removable drive.   I have various legitimate stuff on it and then a hidden directory with a 'system like' name backup_sys or something like that.   My stuff is then in there in subfolders which are also benignly named to not arouse suspicion.

 I use MacOS (don't hate me for it) and there's a nifty keystroke CTRL-OPTION-dot which shows or hides hidden folders and files in drive directories.  So unless someone got curious about the amount of space taken up on the drive or did a filename search and coughed up something suspect it should be ok.

My wife doesn't like the Mac so is unlikely, neither is son.

Work on Truecrypt was stopped several years ago.  It was subsequently branched to become Veracrypt, which is still maintained and kept updated.  So I'd recommend that.  I just created a big file with no extension, so no one would know what it was or find it when searching for a specific file type.  I use Veracrypt for both my original files and the backup file.  Veracrypt is backward compatible with Truecrypt, so you can upgrade to Veracrypt without losing anything you originally created with Truecrypt.
