A study was conducted by professor Rane a gynaecologist in james cook university in australia,in 2004. 124 women were recruited to do a squat ability test. the female volunteers were recruited to do a full squat with their feet flat for 30 second without discomfort.

70 out of 124 women(more than half of them ) cannot squat, or squat on toes, or falling off the toilet, or cannot hold the full squat position for 30 second. only 54 women can hold the full squat position for 30 second.

in women below 20 years old,51% can do full squat. for women 20-29 years old,40 % can do full squat.

before 30 years old, women's squat ability will improve as aging.

women 30-39 years old have the highest portion of them can perform full squat. 52 % of women at that age can perform full squat.

the squat ability of western women will decrease as aging after 40 years old. for women between 40 to 49 years old,47 % can perform full squat. for women 50-59 years old only 30 % can do full squat. only 10% women above age 60 can do full squat.

in less developed Asian countries, such as china and India, from little girls to 60 years old women, can equally do full squat without difficulty, and there is no peak age for that, unlike western countries.

is it true that western women's squat ability peak at 30? is 30 really the golden age for western women to squat?

This is unsurprising - western countries don’t have “squat toilets” whereas India definitely does (China maybe less so now?) so it’s something western women don’t do daily, whereas Indian women definitely do.

I have a friend from India originally who said before she misses the squat toilets and that they helped maintain leg muscle strength. She’s probably right!!!

most women who took the survey or replied this post (which can do full squat)are within the age range(or at least near that range )of peak age that I mentioned. is that mean women at that age have better leg muscle strength?

Pretty hard to say with such a tiny sample size (4)

More than muscle strength is required to do a full, flat-footed squat. Hamstring length, strength, and flexibility are also required, among other attributes, like lumbar flexibility and strength. I am a Western male, and have done a lot of weight training, over my thankfully long life. I don't remember any age at which I could do a full, flat-footed squat. I have always ended up on the balls of my feet. I had one gf who could easily maintain a flat-footed squat, for as long as she wanted to. She is of Caucasian ancestry, and was born and raised in the States, using Western toilets, almost exclusively. She prefers to pee sitting, all the way down, on a Western style toilet, with her thighs pressed tightly together.

Most of the women I have known, who prefer to pee outdoors, do it in a high squat, closer to standing, because the traditional low squat is too difficult, as you all point out. They are predominantly middle aged, or older, 50-75. One of them demonstrated for me how she could use this posture, over a conventional Western toilet, with the seat up. She managed very neatly, except for a small side stream, which ran down her left thigh. She said that happened every time she did it. I helped her by catching the side stream with a wad of t.p., wiping her thigh, while she peed.

Well in my time I have seen a few ladies peeing and I don't recall any of them having any difficulty squatting, which was invariably the chosen position. Outside the realms of porn or my own imagination I have never seen a lady adopt any other position than a full squat to pee (unless sitting on a toilet obviously). It has always seemed to me that adopting this position to pee is almost instinctively natural for a woman. And I have never seen or been aware of any lady who cannot squat to pee, so I find some of the statistics in this thread surprising

But the women around here will know far more about this than I do so can correct me if I am wrong.

@steve25805, I don't disbelieve your statistics, at all, but I think we have observed different groups of ladies, in terms of average age, health, physical condition, etc., since I am some 20 or more years older than you. Some of my lady friends have arthritis, or other conditions, which limit their ability to get down into a squat, or get back up, afterward. And some have simply told me that squatting all the way down, was far more effort than they were willing to put into something as simple as peeing.

just as the article which I cited suggest, for western women above 40,their squat ability may decrease as aging. For those who above 50,very few of them can make full squat. if you only interview the women who above 40,you may find that their difficulty to squat will increase as they get older, but if you only interview the women under 40,the opposite might be correct, if my suggestion of peak age is correct. also,if you interview women in some colonies in Asia, you may find that younger women tend to prefer western toilet, while older women prefer squat toilet.

there was survey in ladies rooms in shopping malls in Singapore in 2010 suggest that the younger the women are, the more likely they choose western toilet. women will increasingly likely to choose squat toilet as they get older.

during weekend and holiday, there were long line in front of ladies room in shopping malls in Singapore, but the stalls that with squat toilet were almost always empty.

for example, the ladies room on the 3rd floor of Boon Lay Jurong Point Shopping Center have 20 stalls,16 of them with western toilets,4 of them with squat toilet. while there was a long line in front of the ladies room, the 4 stalls with squat toilet were empty most of time. the women prefer to wait for western toilet than go to squat toilet.

the interview also show that the younger the women are,the more likely they choose western toilet. for example,Li Xiaoen, a 17-year-old female student, said that squat toilet can make her feet burn. Even if the toilet is dirty, it is fine to wipe the seat before using it.

also,Li Yingxiu, a 25-year-old female bank clerk, is reluctant to use the squat toilet for fear that she will pee her shoes.

but the women above 30,tend to choose squat toilet because they believe that squatting toilets are the first choice for hygiene. The 30-year-old Kang Shiyun said that too many people have sat on the western toilet, and the problem of hygiene  make her really worrying. She will only use it unless there is no choice. Ms. HO pointed out that using the squat toilet does not require hover to pee, nor does it waste  toilet paper.

I think women who go to shopping center are tend to be younger than general population. most of them may under 40,which do not pass the so call "golden age for women to squat" that I mentioned. this might be the reason why the squat toilet were empty most of time, and the younger women tend to choose western toilet.
