Kia are a later, but successful addition to the Asian manufacturer's over here in Europe too - nothing wrong with them in an age when most manufacturers are all offering similar specifications, warranties and the like.

Kia have been doing very well in the UK in the last year or so and have 5.7% of a very fragmented market here in 2021 so far, and growing fast (like their rival Hyundai). For comparison, Ford has 7.5%, VW 9% and BMW 7.1%. I know many people with Kias who are very happy with them. And @gldenwetgoose is right - hatchbacks are a very familiar sight on the roads of Europe because of their practicality.

I'm an advanced driver and I'd totally recommend it. Sure it isn't as fun as going round a track but you learn so much more about your car and it's lots of fun pushing your car a little more on the road while still being safe. A lot of people are quick to upgrade their engine, or their brakes or whatever to make the car faster, but the best upgrade is the driver. Most people aren't even being held back by their equipment when they upgrade.

That's what I thought Sophie. And I would quite like an assessment of how good a driver I am, and where I could improve. I'm sure there are lots of areas.

I can understand them being a little different from the norm in the big wide US of A,  but over here in Europe probably the majority of cars across most countries are hatchbacks with less than a 2 litre engine.

It's mostly a practicality thing - yes we have SUVs and 4x4s, we have executive saloons (sedans) like BMWs and Mercedes, but a lot of people want a smaller car that's easy to park, fuel efficient and cheap to run.  A small saloon (sedan) has the disadvantage that the boot (trunk) is also tiny, so when it comes to normal family life can be a problem.  Baby's pram, airport suitcases, new TV...  all difficult to get into a small saloon car, but in a hatchback no problem at all.  Flip the seats down if you have to and you have a minivan.

Kia are a later, but successful addition to the Asian manufacturer's over here in Europe too - nothing wrong with them in an age when most manufacturers are all offering similar specifications, warranties and the like.

(That said - I'd avoid the Kia Picanto if that even exists over there - I had one as a hire car and had to drop out of top gear to drive up a 7% hill).

Hey you, don't be rude about the Picanto 😆

Just kidding ofcourse, but I've got one and it's actually a very very decent car I think. It's indeed lacking power (although it's also available with 100HP engine, considering how little the car weighs I think that'd be more than enough), but apart from that I think it's the best car in its class. Mine has lots of options (cruise control, leather seats, climate control instead of just "normal" a/c, sat nav, Android Auto, rear view camera, heated seats etc) which you can't get on a lot of these small cars and the interior really looks quite good I think. When I got this car, I've been looking at cars like the VW Up!, Seat Mii, Toyota Aygo as well, but those interiors were all quite cheap with a lot of exposed, bare metal. It seems to me that almost every car in this class has got that, but the Picanto has a really "grown up" interior with everything nicely upholstered. And it drives pretty good as well, but I live in the flatest country on earth were the curb is considered a huge hill, so even the lack of power doesn't bother me that much😁

Having said that, I really want my next car to be a little more powerfull though. My previous car was a 235HP Skoda, so it was a bit of a let down to get a 67HP Kia after that. But my Skoda was a 2002 car, so the Kia is much more modern and I really appreciate all the gadgets on it!

Hey guys

I was touring a local estate sale and found this beautiful grill that belongs to a Bentley I think. Could anyone tell me what model this would go on?

I don't know exact model, but it's definitely a Bentley - built in Crewe in Cheshire.  The Bentley line and Rolls Royce share many similarities although the grilles were definitely different.

From a quick Google image search I'd say a 1950-1960's limousine, the sort that sometimes still get used today as wedding cars.

Without any actual dimensions it is a bit hard to guess, but based on the shape it could be anywhere between a Mark V (1939) to a S3 (1965)

If I were to come to this thread and talk about my Vauxhall Corsa, it would be like going to an art gallery and talking about a turd.

I don't think so Steve! We've had a discussion of the merits of the Kia Picanto quite recently, for example 🙂 (And I don't think many - any? - of us are in the market for a Bentley lol).

And also ... a turd might be considered a work of art in some galleries 🙂

Yes - it's expensive to travel by car right now 😞

Definitely a car fan here. Right now my Daily driver is a 90's Chevy Caprice wagon. Also have a 70's Lincoln and 90's  Cadillac Allante for fun. My dream cars are all over the place. 1st and foremost is a 2004 SVT Cobra finished in Mystichrome. Next would be a 1958 Cadillac "Limo-style" (windows in place of Landau Irons on the side of the vehicle)  Hearse, with coachwork by Miller Meteor, S&S, or Eureka. The other oddball one I would love to have is a Toyota Century!

Those pre-1960 Cadillacs have really got something that appeals to me.  I think if I had the space and the money for a classic car collection,  the very first one I would buy would be a 1959 Cadillac DeVille saloon.  They just look fabulous.

You can't go wrong with a car that looks like it was designed by the Jetsons.

Those fins ... what were they smoking when they drew that up and thought "Perfect!"?

And is that the car where the gas tank filler is hidden inside the rear light cluster, or am I confusing myself?

On 1959 Cadillac's the fuel filler is in the middle of the rear grille. Many other Cadillacs (I know 1948-1958 for sure) had it behind the left taillight, some Lincolns (Most notably 1956-1957 Continental Mark II) as well.

It was the beginning of the space age,  and of the era of supersonic jet fighters.   People really thought the future had arrived,  and they wanted to be in it.

I love my cars, have been obsessed with them since I was a kid.

Car history reads as below:

MK2 Fiesta, mk3 Fiesta, Mk1 Mondeo, MK2 Mondeo 2.0, MK2 Mondeo ST, mk3 Golf GTi, Fiat Coupe 20v, Seat Leon Cupra, Alfa Romeo 159x 2, Escort XR3i, Alfa Romeo 147, Subaru Forester Turbo and currently daily driver Volvo C30 coupe.  In my classic fleet is a 1985 Fiesta XR2 and a LHD Renault Twingo 1 (never officially sold in the UK.  I also have shares in some old buses 🫣

In the past I've had short term ownership of a Vauxhall Nova, Mk4 Escort (first car I ever had sex in!), Citroen ZX,  Morris Minor, Reliant Scimitar and a Mk1 Ford Focus.
