That's incredibly impressive. Quote Link to post
Alfresco 10,919
I've had a few cycle rides recently - nothing overly impressive, but just nice to get out and burn a few calories and get the heart rate up for a time. On Friday I went for a 3 mile paddle in my kayak on the canal. That was good as I haven't been out in the kayak since I injured my shoulder back in October. Oh and if anyone's interested, I stopped at the turning point, popped the spray deck off and peed up and over the cockpit rim to make a nice arc landing in the water. 1 2 Quote Link to post
LovesToWet 3,351
That was a fun week but my legs are now starting to feel heavy. 140 miles done on the bike plus a 5k run. I haven't had a week like this for a while. 1 1 Quote Link to post
Popular Post Sophie 22,714
So... tomorrow is exciting! My daughter asked me today about cycling milestones and I told her a common one is 50 miles. She told me that was way too much for her and asked me if I could go with her for 30 miles instead? YES!! So tomorrow we are going for a 30 mile bike ride together, going to get up nice and early and just enjoy ourselves. I have a route in mind with a cafe stop at 15 miles, and depending on how she feels we can either continue our ride for an additional 15 miles, or go another way and it's only 5 miles back to home. I am not sure why she is suddenly interested in riding a relatively long distance but I am all for it. I love our mother daughter time on the bikes. 5 Quote Link to post

I am smiling right now just thinking about it. We headed out nice and early, leaving the house at 8am after having a nice breakfast and we took our time, it was all about the journey and not the destination. It was really nice having her alongside me, talking about anything and everything, having some proper mother daughter time. And we really did talk about anything, some of the most random things you could think of. At one point I could hardly see where I was riding because I was laughing so much. It was incredible. We stopped at a cafe just shy of 15 miles and had a coffee each and a slice of cake (VERY important!) and we talked some more. It was an enjoyable 30 minutes. We didn't want to wait too long but at the same time,, we could have spent all day there. It was just a really nice place with a good atmosphere. We nipped into the ladies and had a wee before we set off again. I asked my daughter how she was doing and she told me she was happy to go an additional 15 miles instead of taking the shortcut home. The next 15 miles was similar to the first, lots of chatting and laughing. Towards the end I could tell she was getting tired, she was still in a really good mood but she was coasting as much as possible, even on the flat sections, only pedaling when her speed dropped. Still, we made it home okay albeit a little slower than when we left. When we put our bikes away I asked her if she enjoyed it. She looked at me, smiled and gave me the tightest hug ever. "Mum.... I loved it! I want to do it again, maybe not weekly, but I want to do it again" I felt like I could burst into tears of joy. This could be the start of something truly wonderful. 6 Quote Link to post
LovesToWet 3,351
Just a 5k run this weekend and a 40mile bike ride. Legs have been stiff from a lovely shirt break at the start of the week which involved a lot of walking. It's was great to get away though so well worth the aches 2 1 Quote Link to post

mickymoist 3,249
Well I'm not an ideal example as there's no one at home here if it happened to me, and I haven't ridden a bike for 30 years.... but I would go for what keeps you sane 2 Quote Link to post
Popular Post Alfresco 10,919
Lunch time today, I decided that it is not right to spend all day sat at the desk and so I took an extended lunch, put a kayak on the top of the car and went for a paddle on the canal. I took my lunch with me, paddled a bit over a mile to a nice wharf with a picnic area and then got out and sat on the front of the kayak to eat lunch. Whilst I was there, I saw a tour boat moor up and various walkers came by. I needed to pee and with people around I decided to go for the discrete option and peed down the side of my kayak whilst I was seated and with my spray deck hiding the action from passers by. I'll write up the details and put them in my Alfresco Peeing thread in the men peeing section as there are some photos to illustrate the technique that wouldn't necessarily be appropriate here. After lunch, I got back on the water and paddled back to the start point and then loaded up and headed home. Far better than sitting at home to eat lunch, but it did mean I was gone for about two hours including the loading, unloading and driving there and back. Popular Post Bacardi 8,811
Today I did some work with my physical therapist for an injury I sustained in my neck and pain in my back. She told me she can tell I've lost weight since the last time I saw her (October-January). It made me feel really great, and I feel even better because I've added 2 lb hand weights to my treadmill routine. My mom got me a tiny treadmill for Christmas and in Jan/Feb I started walking on it to reach 10k steps a day at least 5 days a week, but I go for 7 if I can. I don't use a scale to measure weight loss as I am a woman who gets a regular menstrual cycle that cause me to gain/retain/lose weight on a daily basis. But from pictures and the way my clothes are fitting i can tell I've lost weight and I can't wait to see how my body reacts to using the weights when I walk as well! 3 2 Quote Link to post

LovesToWet 3,351
It's been a few weeks since I got knocked off my bike and I finally felt I could manage a ride. So Friday night I got my MTB out of storage (my road bike got trashed in the accident) and got it ready for a ride..... Complete mental block. My heart says go for it, you'll be fine but my head just won't let me get on it. I've tried all weekend but all I do is stare at it. Never ever thought I'd be too nervous to get on a bike but here I am and don't know what to do about it 3 1 Quote Link to post
