Getting over stage fright

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have any stories/advice about getting over stage fright at the urinal? I’m almost half way through high school, and still too shy to use the urinals there. Since the beginning I’ve been confined to the stalls, and I’m honestly getting sick of it.

I really want to use the urinal there, but I’m just scared I’ll freeze up and won’t be able to go with others around. It’s one of those long trough urinals and always really busy, so there’s basically always another boy peeing right next to u in full view. Looks kinda intimidating, but I just wanna use it! Any tips?

Hi and welcome to the community firstly,

When you say that you're scared you'll freeze up - is that a case of being scared that you might...  or a case of scared because it has happened?

I must admit I'm a bit 'old' and sort of have an opinion that there's two approaches. Either avoid exposure to the situation, but then you've said you're getting fed up with that.  So the alternative is just do it.  Try it.  What's the worst that can happen...   It takes a while to get started?  Worse case you mutter to yourself "oh well, guess I didn't need to go after all" and come back later.

In terms of the practicalities....  a few points to bear in mind.

Firstly - if you're like I was growing up, it's easy to think everyone else is much 'bigger' and feel inferior.  Usually the only other penises us guys have seen are our father's maybe when we were tiny and they were adults (so no comparison) and porn actors.  They're porn actors for a reason and so aren't comparable to you and I.  The chances are you're no different from the guys around you.  If you're surrounded by women you'll notice every single pair of breasts are different - some large, some small. Some barely noticeable, some overflowing. Droopy, perky. You get the idea.  It's the same for guys, no wrong and no right - all slightly different.

When you do try - it's probably best not to be absolutely bursting and about to wet yourself. That may not end well, but at the same time make sure you are quite full, so your bladder is ready to release and you're not trying to squeeze a dribble out.

You've said that the toilets are always busy - maybe there's times busier than others, like in the middle of lunch rather than right at the start of a break?

Final suggestion - just go and try it.

Hi and welcome to this site. I been the same way with urinals my whole life. I am very shy with urinals too and dont like to go around men too. You are not alone with this problem here. I still today rather go into stall because its more comfortable for me. There are lots of men who have trouble using urinals too with men around them. What do and what I say is too just try to go pee and relax your bladder.  I would pick a urinal all the way the other end so no one can look at you when you go or feel no one look at you when you go.

I used to avoid urinals because I am, in fact, on the low end of average in size.  But two things helped me overcome it.  First, I got used to using the urinals in my workplace men's room when it wasn't busy and slowly graduated to peeing when there was one person there.  Most guys won't peek at you anyway.  It's easier when it's a bunch of strangers.  You don't have to care what they think.

The second factor is more recent.  I'm old now and holding my pee isn't so easy anymore.  If I have to go, just having someone at the next urinal isn't going to stop me!

You may have a few dry attempts before you succeed, but don't get discouraged.

Back in my younger days I had the same problem, usually if there was a queue and I felt under pressure to pee and leave so the next guy could go. I would often stand there and nothing would come out. Eventually I got to the stage where I was able to block the situation and concentrate on the job in hand and was able to pee freely, and am OK with doing the same ever since. It wasn't being watched which bothered me, it was the fact there was a queue behind me.

I still struggle even when there's no one else in the bathroom, but I've been getting better just by doing it as much as I can, drinking more (a bit more desperation helps, even if you can't let it all out), and thinking about other things while peeing. Like thinking about strategy in an online game I'm playing often takes my mind off things enough to loosen up.

I know I don’t have much experience with the going part but I’ve seen my far share of penis.   The soft penis can be deceptive. Some guys are growers.  They seem small but get much bigger.  So don’t be afraid about your size part.  No one is really going to know what size you are until u get completely hard.   I hope this helps put your mind at easy about that part. Sorry I can’t be more helpful with any other advise. But we got plenty of good guys here to help you out with that part.

Yeah, there’s ALWAYS a queue for the urinal at my school cuz there are so many students and one center bathroom. The fact that there are people waiting behind me I imagine would add a lot of pressure!

A thought occurred to me yesterday...   I was standing to pee at the urinal at work.  Normally there's a line of four separate urinals and between each is a porcelain shield that projects about a foot out from the wall.

Anyway as I was standing at the urinal and just enjoying the feel of my stream starting to flow, I realised my hands were acting as a natural shield either side of my penis.  I had my left hand holding my fly open and pulling down the waistband of my boxer shorts just inside my casual black jeans.  My right hand was gently supporting my penis ready to shake off when I'd finished.

Because of the angle of my arms, if there had been anyone standing at the next urinal and they had happened to look down in my direction, the most they would have seen would have been the back of my hand, completely naturally blocking any view of my penis.

So for you guys with a tendency for shyness, quite apart from all the discussion that's gone before, the chances of anyone seeing your manhood from the urinal next to yours are minimal. One less thing to worry about.
